Pahrump Town Manager Bill Kohbarger was confronted twice by angry residents after Tuesday's meeting, just outside the doors of the Bob Ruud Community Center. The group surrounding Kohbarger disbanded when four Nye County sheriff's patrol cars arrived.
PTO 43 passed again; board mum
The new town trash ordinance, PTO No. 43, had previously been adopted, but the board revisited it April 14 at the request of Pahrump resident Robin Lloyd. At that meeting, Lloyd made what were deemed by town attorney Lance Maiss and Pahrump Valley Disposal attorney Robert Groesbeck, as "housekeeping changes" to about 19 of the 21 pages of the ordinance.

Swine flu hits Reno; no cases in Pahrump
A 2-year-old girl in the Reno area fell ill with swine flu last Friday, the CDC confirmed Wednesday.

Nye County Emergency Services released this public information statement recommending everyone follow current Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines pertaining to the swine flu.

A new Nye County Democratic Party Central Committee was seated behind the table during a regular monthly meeting in Room B at the Bob Ruud Community Center Monday night.

MAY 15 AND 16: Frontier Days/Chili Showdown
The Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce has developed several new fundraising events for the valley. The Mardi Gras celebration, which took place in February, was the first. The next will be Frontier Days and Chili Showdown scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16 in Petrack Park.

$1,000: Are you the next 'Elvis'?
Entertainers from all over Nevada and California will come together looking to pocket $1,000 in grand prize money from the "Images of the King" Elvis competition hosted by the Maverick Saloon and Dance Hall on May 9. Other prizes will be $300 for second place and $250 for third place.

Task force suggestions often down in flames
Former Nye County Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos wanted a committee made up of local businessmen to recommend rezoning 1,241 remaining problem parcels after the Pahrump Valley comprehensive rezoning map was approved in June 2007.

Radiation exposure risk study to be presented to board
A study scheduled to be presented at a meeting of the Nevada Test Site Community Advisory Board May 6 shows the maximum possible exposure to a normal shipment of radioactive material -- from a truck parked at a rest area -- would be one-sixth the ordinary background radiation level in Nevada for a whole year.

'Country Karaoke' contest in final stages
The Nye County chapter of the Nevada Country Music Association (CMA) has been holding a karaoke contest for the past two months in an attempt to get the association recognized and bring business to the local bar scene.

Pahrump Valley High School Senior Alicia Jordan recalled what it was like to be "dead" after a traffic accident, during a skit drawing attention to the dangers of drunk driving last Wednesday.

Local agencies plan response to swine flu
Gov. Jim Gibbons on Monday ordered all state agencies "to be vigilant" regarding swine flu, adding, "Every asset and employee of the state is available to assist in any effort to protect the health of our citizens and visitors."
