PV track teams in sweep
By DON McDERMOTT
After beating Sunset Class 4-A rivals Las Vegas Durango and Desert Oasis on its own track Wednesday, the Pahrump Valley teams are at Del Sol High School today, going after success in the Las Vegas Invitational meet. The competition, featuring freshmen and sophomores, begins at 3:30 p.m. today. Juniors and seniors compete Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. "We will probably go with 17 freshmen and sophomores and maybe seven of the older kids in Las Vegas," coach Andy Schneider said after the meet, which was completed in 2 hours, 20 minutes. Many of the southwestern United States best track teams will be at Del Sol this weekend, so having success will mean a great deal to the younger Trojans. And they will get an idea of what kind of attitude -- and increased levels of experience and skills -- will be present when the 4-A regionals come around at Del Sol in May. The Trojans edged Durango 84-79 in the boys' meet, with Desert Oasis scoring 20. The PV girls totaled 95 points, with Durango at 64 and Desert Oasis 19. The PV boys got wins in the 4x800-, 4x200- and 4x100-meter relays to spark the victory against the TrailBlazers and Diamondbacks. The Lady Trojans got two wins each from distance runner McKenzie Dean and weights specialist Ashley Rencher, as well as Ashley Lindgren in the 200 and long jump. The PV girls also won the 4x200, 4x100 and 4x400 relays. In the latter, Dean, Lindgren, McJunkin and Noelle Taddeo were clocked in 4:19.0, one of the fastest times in Southern 4-A track this spring. The Trojans run at Clark Monday and in the Palo Verde Spring Break Invitational April 7. The next home meet is April 25, with Bishop Gorman and Beatty to compete. |
