Pahrump Valley's boys golf team didn't have one of its better days Monday. Fortunately, the 2009 Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division season still has five more matches remaining before the regionals are contested in early May.

Coach Bob Hopkins' team, playing on the tough par 72, 6,301-yard Canyon Gate course Monday, shot 471, 41 strokes behind Bishop Gorman. Bonanza had 433, Sierra Vista 457 and Spring Valley 467. Desert Oasis, a first-year team, had 494, and Clark totaled 561. Durango did not field a complete team, while Western did not compete.

For Pahrump Valley, Shane Lindemann and Dorian Patel each shot 92. Elliott Owens had 93 and Daniel Shimakawa 94, while Ryan Hammar and Josh Spradlin each scored 100.

For Gorman, Connor Morris and Nick Sikorski each had 79s. Minoso Kim had 83, Joe McGrath 85 and John Mile 86 for Bonanza.

Soungjae Beak had 86 for Desert Oasis, while Christian Pate of Durango, C.J. Schnaudel of Sierra Vista and Joey Tuzzolino of Spring Valley had 87s.

The remaining matches against division opponents are April 2 (at Mountain Falls, the Trojans' home course), April 14, at Rhodes Ranch; April 21, at Red Rock Arroyo; April 28 or 29, at Angel Park and May 5, at Sienna.

The Sunset Regionals are the week of May 11, with the state 4-A tournament May 20-21 at Sparks.

Pahrump Valley goes to the River Valley (Ariz.) Invitational in the greater Bullhead City area Monday and Tuesday. The first tee time Monday is at noon, with the second round to start at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The Pahrump Valley Invitational, with 16 schools entered, is April 6-7 at Mountain Falls.
