PAVED free workshop

PAVED will sponsor a free workshop 1-3 p.m. April 2 in the Pahrump Town Annex next to the community pool.

This is a financial workshop geared to understanding the stimulus package enacted by President Obama to help small businesses.

The SBA program is designed to help bussiness' grow and succeed. The government guarantees up to 90 percent of the loan amount and subsidized the SBA fees.

The new changes have made it easier for business owners to get the capital they need.

Fifth Sunday sing

There will be an all church fifth Sunday sing at 6 p.m. March 29 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

The Church of the Pentecost, UPCI, will have two nights of revival at 7:30 p.m. March 27 and 6 p.m. March 28 at 781 S. Woodchips.

Relay for Life fundraiser

The High Desert Linedancers will host an Easter dinner celebration starting at 6 p.m., April 3 at the Pahrump Nugget. There will be an Easter basket auction, chance drawings, a silent auction and live entertainment.

Filet mignon will be served and semi-formal dress is requested.

Tickets at $60 per person and are available at the chamber of commerce.

All proceeds go to Relay For Life.

Democrat captains meet

A meeting for the Democrat precinct captains will be at 8 a.m.-noon, March 28 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Blood drive

Pahrump Valley Cruisers, Hot Rods and Big Hearts will sponsor a blood drive 4-8 p.m. April 3 and 8-1 p.m. April 4 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

DAV relocated

The Disabled American Veterans service officer, Reggie Knight, has relocated his offices to Desert View Hospital, 360 S. Lola Lane. The hours remain the same.

Volunteers for security

The Pahrump Community Library is accepting applications for volunteer security persons. Volunteers are asked to give five to 10 hours per week.

Applications are available at the main circulation desk.

O-Mok-See

The Rising Star Equestrian Association, N.P.O., will hold another O-Mok-See March 28-29 at McCullough Arena.

Signup starts at 9 a.m. each day and the event starts at 10.

There will be a cowboy church on Sunday at 8 a.m.

The cost is $10 per entry for members and $25 for non-members.

There will be a Mutton Bustin' event for ages 6 and under following the O-Mok-See.

* Biz Expo kick-off and membership mixer

There will be a kick-off breakfast and mixer at 8:30 a.m., April 23 in the events center of the Pahrump Nugget.

Biz Expo exhibitors admitted free with a ticket.

The keynote speaker will be Tom Saitta, business owner/entrepreneur/entertainer.

The cost is $10 for members not exhibiting in the Expo and $20 for non-members.

* Vendors, there's still time

The 11th annual Biz Expo will be April 24 and 25 in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center. This is the premier event sponsored by the chamber and it is a great time to showcase a business to the community. Admission to the public is free.

* Biz Expo April 24-25

This is the largest trade show in rural Southern Nevada.

The hours will be noon-7 p.m., Friday and 9-7 p.m., Saturday. Admission is free.

Lost to addiction support group

A new support group is forming for survivors of loved ones lost to addiction.

The first meeting will be at 6 p.m., April 2 in the training room at Desert View Hospital, 360 S. Lola Lane.

The group will meet each Thursday.

The meeting is open and non-smoking.

Women's self-defense class

The Nye County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Heroes will present another two-day women's self defense class 8-4 p.m. April 9 and 10 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Preston Dockter blood drive

Rosemary Clarke Middle School and United Blood Services will conduct a blood drive, 2:30-6:30 p.m., March 31 in the RCMS cafeteria. The drive is dedicated to the memory of Preston Dockter.

Dockter was a teacher at RCMS and a coach at Pahrump Valley High School. He died in a motorcycle wreck September 2008.

New coin club meets

A recently formed coin club in Pahrump will meet at 10 a.m., April 4 in the UNR Cooperative Extension Office, corner of Dandelion Street and Calvada Boulevard.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in coins, paper money, tokens, medals, and ancient or gold coins.

Regular meetings will be the first Saturday of each month.

Masonic breakfast

The Pahrump Masonic Lodge will host another fundraiser breakfast 8 a.m.- noon, April 11 at the lodge, 281 Gemini Dr.

Ham and cheese omelettes, cowboy potatoes and toast will be on the menu. Donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. The event is open to the public.

The proceeds benefit their scholarship fund.

Computer Users meet

The Pahrump Computer Users will meet at 1 p.m. April 6 in the large meeting room of the library.

Ample parking is provided in the rear of the library and is the preferred parking area. Handicapped parking is still in the front.

Fast Track program

The Nye County adult education program is offering GED testing and courses.

The GED test can be used to waive English, math, science and social studies electives depending on test scores.

Nevada High School Proficiency Exams with passing scores are a prerequisite, and the adult education offers those classes as well.

Fish Fry

Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church will host a fish fry 4-7 p.m. each Friday through April 3, 781 E. Gamebird Road.

Fried and baked fish dinners are $7. They will also have fish tacos, fish taco dinners, clam chowder and homemade desserts.

Coffee or punch is free and other beverages will be available.

Prom dresses available

The NyE Communities Coalition has beautiful prom dresses, shoes and accessories available at no charge. The items will be available 2:30-5:30 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays, March 18 through April 16 at NyE Communities Coalition, 2280 E. Calvada Blvd., Suite 103.
