JobConnect is trying to reopenPVT
Employees of Nevada JobConnect expected it would only be a one day shutdown while they moved into new offices at the Great Basin College addition at 1330 E. Basin Ave. But after leaving the Calvada Eye modular building they occupied since 2005 last Friday, the new offices at Nevada JobConnect still aren't fully functional. The latest word is the Pahrump JobConnect office should be up and running Monday. The sign on the door said "closed" Thursday, but a few clients came in for job counseling. Phones and computers weren't working. Agencies like the Nevada Division of Employment Training and Rehabilitation, Nevada Partners and the American Association of Retired Persons had representatives working at the new office providing counseling. But in the resource room next door, a bank of computers for people to search for jobs on-line still sat unused. "The resource room is not up and running, and that's what most clients need," said counselor Claudia Palacios. She said Nevada JobConnect employees are also a little limited in space at their new offices. Nye County Commissioners in January voted to terminate the lease with Nevada JobConnect to use the modular building on the Calvada Eye. Commissioners want to relocate the county administration and nuclear waste repository project offices there instead of paying rent. The Nevada JobConnect lease expires effective Tuesday. |
