Dr. Ming-Wei Wu will not be allowed to perform any surgical procedures at Desert View Hospital requiring general anesthesia, following an agreement reached with the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine. Wu has also practiced at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas. He is scheduled to appear for administrative hearings before the board at 9 a.m. this Saturday at 2860 E. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas, regarding five complaints. Four of the five complaints involve surgeries at Desert Springs, one involves an operation at Desert View Hospital in Pahrump. The Saturday hearing involves the Pahrump complaint. A woman was admitted to Desert View Hospital Dec. 27, 2008, for rectal bleeding, The complaint charges Wu misdiagnosed the cause of her problem. The board is allowed to put Wu on probation, give him a public reprimand and can suspend or revoke his license to practice osteopathic medicine in the state of Nevada. A complaint filed against Wu charges him with engaging in unprofessional conduct including conduct detrimental to the public heatlh, safety and morals; engaging in unethical conduct which constitutes an unfitness to practice osteopathic medicine in the state of Nevada and engaging in conduct which may be considered as professional incompetency. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported two of Wu's patients died but did not say where. "This agreement fulfills the boards concerns for the public safety and welfare and still provides a physician for the citizens of Pahrump who are experiencing a shortage of physicians in that area," the Board of Osteopathic Medicine stated in a press release. The agreement states any general anesthesia performed at Las Vegas hospitals will be performed by another surgeon. |
