NATIONALS Dwarf cars at DVRSPECIAL TO THE PVT AMARGOSA VALLEY -- The Dwarf Car Nationals will be contested Friday and Saturday at Death Valley Raceway. The weekend actually begins Thursday, when the pit gates open at 10 a.m., according to the track Web site. Technical inspections will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the track; there will be no inspections made at the Longstreet Hotel and Casino. After track preparations are completed, there will be practice on the one-third mile dirt oval from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. A dog contest will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the track. The WSDCA awards banquet will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Longstreet. On Friday, the pit gates open at 10 a.m., with technical inspections starting then and concluding at 2 p.m. There will be a drivers' meeting at noon. Track preparations will begin at 12:30 p.m. Dwarf car hot laps will start following the packing. Heat races for pro, veteran and sportsman cars will start after hot laps. Following a 30-minute intermission, main events will start. Drivers, crews and fans will be able to go to the Longstreet restaurant afterwards; it will be open until 10 p.m. The pit gates will reopen at 10 a.m. Saturday. A drivers' meeting will be held at noon. Hot laps will begin after the track is prepared, with heat races to follow. After a 30-minute intermission, the main events will get underway.
