APRIL 6-7 AT MOUNTAIN FALLS

16 schools enter PV golf tourney

Sixteem schools from California, Arizona and Nevada have entered the Pahrump Valley Invitational Golf tournament for boys, to be played April 6-7 at Mountain Falls.

Co-hosts Pahrump Valley and Las Vegas Desert Oasis are from the Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division.

Also entered:

* Las Vegas Centennial (2 teams); Centennial is in the Sunset Region Northwest Class 4-A Division;

* Soda Springs, Calif.;

* Chula Vista (Calif.) Mater Dei, (2 teams);

* Phoenix (Ariz.) Northwest Christian;

* Boulder City, Southern Nevada Class 3-A League;

* Tehachapi, Calif.;

* Mesquite Virgin Valley (2 teams); 3-A;

* Sedona (Ariz.) Red Rock;

* Las Vegas Bishop Gorman (2 teams); Gorman is in the Sunset Region Southwest 4-A Division;

* Las Vegas Palo Verde (2 teams); Northwest 4-A;

* Las Vegas Sierra Vista; Southwest 4-A;

* Las Vegas Arbor View; Northwest 4-A;

* Las Vegas Bonanza; Southwest 4-A.

West Wendover, from the Southern Nevada Class 2-A League, will send two golfers. Including several extra players from most of the teams, a total of 95 players will compete in the medal play tournament on the par 72, 6,500-yard course.

Henderson Coronado Blue (Sunrise Southeast 4-A) won the 2008 title with 661, seven strokes ahead of Palo Verde Silver. Bonanza Brown had 700, with Pahrump Valley at 703.

The first tee time on April 6 is 11 a.m., with foursomes to start every eight minutes through 1:53 p.m. Action resumes at 8 a.m. April 7.

* Pahrump Valley, playing against its former Southern Nevada Class 3-A League rivals at The Palms in Mesquite last Friday, shot 413, Faith Lutheran's league-leading Crusaders had 406.

Virgin Valley recorded 434, as did Moapa Valley, while Boulder City had 454.

For Pahrump Valley, Shane Lindemann and Daniel Shimakawa each shot 78, while Dorian Patel had 79. Elliott Owens added 83, with Ryan Hammar at 95 and Josh Spradlin 98.

Yuki Kato, the defending player of the year in the 3-A league, shot a one-under par 71 to claim medalist honors to pace Faith Lutheran to its third win without a loss.

Kato is averaging 72.7 strokes per 18 holes and has accumulated 35.5 points, 5.5 ahead of Virgin Valley's Alden Sullivan (78.0, 30).

For the Crusaders, Blake Hampton had 83, Chad Kaercher 88, Charley Berry 85, Trevor Ensign 86 and Alex Vance 81.

Sullivan and Anthony Lucero shot 83s for Virgin Valley, which had Ryan Baeza add 85, Travis Rushton 86 and Bryson VanHoutopn 97.

Marcus Delgadillo had 83 to lead Moapa Valley. Cody Kelly and Cody Nichols added 88s, with Travis Causey at 85, Andrew Andersen 90 and Johnathan Wilson 99.

For Boulder City, Ryan Roundtree had 82, Jeremy Dunbar 90, Nick Stevens 94, Joe Nunley 89, Nick Hoffman 99 and Jacob Lynch 113.
