A run for rebuilding

AMARGOSA VALLEY -- As in days gone by, when neighbors got together to help each other with a barn-raising or perhaps to bring in the crops before a rain, Maggie Herzig organized Amargosa Valley and Pahrump to help two of her good neighbors and friends.

"Dep. Joe Cohan and his wife, Tootsie, are friends to the whole community in Amargosa Valley," said Herzig, who runs the Stateline Saloon in Amargosa Valley.

Herzig organized a Saturday auction, raffle, poker run and cookout to raise funds to help the Cohans, whose home burned down March 6. Herzig was also working on opening a bank account for donations.

"Joe and Tootsie lost everything except their garage," said Herzig before the auction.
