Board to vote on conduct Tuesday
Pahrump Town Board meetings continue to see higher than usual attendance of late and the March 10 meeting was no exception. One item that drew lengthy public comment and is being carried over until next Tuesday's meeting is a resolution to set rules on behavior during town meetings.

Nye County brothel owner Joe Richards' plea agreement spares him prison time, but he's subject to up to five years probation and a $250,000 fine.


Acoustic Grass Music Festival
The VFW Post 10054 will host the second annual acoustic music and bluegrass festival the first weekend in April.

PAC: Two events scheduled
In February, the Spring Mountain Art Guild held a "Batik on Paper" workshop with Terry Harvey. The participants enjoyed it so much; another is on tap for tomorrow.

RPC figures out formula for last parcels
The Pahrump Regional Planning Commission came up with a solution how to deal with many of the 1,250 remaining parcels left out of the Pahrump rezoning map adopted in 2007: rezone them residential if possible and let applicants come back with specific plans when they want to rezone it for a business.

BEATTY -- Valley Electric Association's customers can breathe a sigh of relief based on CEO Tom Husted's remarks at the cooperative's District 3 annual meeting in Beatty March 17.

County's comment policy is criticized
The Nye County Commission public comment policy, which requires residents to fill out a card before speaking, came under fire Tuesday morning.

Nye County Commissioners Joni Eastley and Butch Borasky, Tonopah Town Manager James Eason and other local officials were part of the group of Nye County representatives who toured the El Dorado power plant near Boulder City Tuesday, March 10.

County audit report is expected Tuesday
A special Nye County Commission teleconference is scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Emergency Services Building, 1510 Siri Lane, to hear the audit report for the 2007-08 fiscal year presented by accountant Dan McArthur.

County chip seal program delayed over budget worries
A concern over the budget led to a delay in approving the budget for the chip seal program, scheduled to begin this spring, but Nye County Commissioners Tuesday had little choice but to approve a $228,000 change order with Southwest Environmental Services for past work expanding the Pahrump landfill.

Bomb scare at the dump
Wednesday about 3 p.m., a phone call from the weigh station attendant at the landfill alerted the Nye County Sheriff's Office of a possible bomb.

Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Jim Katapodis, director of the Baker to Vegas Run, honored Pahrump volunteers during a dinner the night before the 25th running of the Baker-to-Vegas race at Pahrump Moose Lodge No. 808 Friday.

StageStop organizes community bazaar
The StageStop Lounge and Casino is going to be taking advantage of the acreage around the building by providing the community with a place to hold a community bazaar, much like the venue already established at the VFW Post 10054 on Homestead Road. The first bazaar is scheduled 8-4 p.m., Saturday, March 28.

'Suspicious device' on Vicky Ann
Both sides of the 1900 block of Vicky Ann Drive were evacuated yesterday when Nye County Sheriff's Office and Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue Service were dispatched to investigate a pipe bomb around 9 a.m.
