Farmers Cup

The Farmers Cup Adult-Junior Golf Series will be played June 14, July 12 and Aug. 9, instead of in the spring.

Robert Worden, the series director, said information on the event can be found by e-mailing him at rworden@farmersagent.com, or by calling 1-775-910-9624.

The tournament format calls for an adult and a junior player to form a team for medal play. Players 6-8 and 9-11 will play nine-hole matches, while players 12-14 and 15-18 will compete in 18-hole rounds.

The costs are $20 for all junior players; $25 for adults playing with a 6-8 or 9-11 golfer and $35 for adults playing in an 18-hole match.

Pre-registration will be required before each match, with the deadlines June 10 for the first round, July 8 for the second, and Aug. 5 for the finale. All matches will be played at Mountain Falls.

First-place medals will be awarded in each division. First-, second- and third-place teams in each age division will receive medals.

Bocce ball

Special Olympics bocce ball is underway at the courts in Honeysuckle Park.

Basketball is still being played at J.G. Johnson School on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to noon. Track and field will start Saturday at the Pahrump Valley High School track; it runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Pop Warner

Registration is now open for the 2009 Pop Warner football season.

Players 5 to 7 years old and weighing 75 pounds or less play for one team; the second team is for youth 8 to 11 who weigh 105 pounds or less.

The age is as of July 31, 2009. The cost of registration is $180. Registration forms can be picked up, and completed, at Worden's Farmers Insurance Agency, 2210 E. Commercial Road (off Highway 160 at the Nevada State Bank).

Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Pahrump Pop Warner teams play in the Southern Nevada Conference. The Rush is in the Pee-Wee Division (ages 8 to 11) and will be coached by Robert Worden. The Sharks of the tiny-mite division (ages 5 to 7) will be coached by Damon Plant.

Teams are limited to 35 players, so early registration is encouraged. Practice will begin Aug. 3.

Need players

Pahrump Valley Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken League baseball needs players for teams in the Junior (13-14-15) Division.

Teams are now practicing; youngsters interested in playing, but are not yet registered, can stop by Honeysuckle Park and ask for a coach to get information after 5 p.m.

Age groups are 4 to 18, with May 1 the age determination date. T-ball and Rookies will be in the 4-8 age groups; Minor, Major, Junior, Senior in the 9-18 age groups.

The cost will be $65 for 4-8s and $95 for 9 to 18s. Payment arrangements will be available. For information, call 751-9595.

So far, there are more than 360 players registered, with the season to begin March 28. There are five Minor, four Major and four Junior teams scheduled to play this season.

Camps slated

Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten-Star All-Star Basketball Camp, for boys and girls 10 to 19 years old.

* Advantage Basketball camps is now accepting registration for summer break camp, at the Tarkanian Basketball Academy, 2730 S. Rancho, Las Vegas. The camp will run April 5-7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Sin City golf

The Sin City Chamber of Commerce/Chicken Ranch golf tournament will be played April 25 at Mountain Falls.

Registration will be at 7 a.m. for the best ball tournament, which will have a shotgun start at 7:30.

The entry fee is $125 for one player, $450 for a foursome. The cost includes a gift bag, T-shirt and the Chicken Ranch Experience (which runs from noon to 5 p.m. and includes a barbecue.)
