Timothy Lester Liapes, 50, of Pahrump was arrested Saturday for the murder of Robert Humphrey, 45, also from Pahrump.

When Nye County deputies and detectives responded to a call at 10 a.m. March 5, at Liapes' home, they found Humphrey already dead from a gunshot wound to the head. The only other person on the scene was Liapes.

After interviewing Humphrey's family and friends, detectives initially ruled Liapes' death to be a suicide. However, further investigation and evidence from the medical examination led to a finding of homicide. Detectives obtained search warrants for Liapes' residence to collect DNA and for a gunshot residue examination.

Liapes is being held at the Pahrump jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m., April 17.

A private family service has been planned for Humphrey.
