'We the People' casting call is March 18-19
By CHARLENE DEAN
The Shadow Mountain Community Players are making plans for another production and the casting call is out. Wednesday and Thursday, March 18 and 19, open auditions for the musical, "We the People," will be held 7-9 p.m. at the Pahrump Valley Senior Center. This production, taken from the Preamble, revolves around the Constitution and how it applies to America's past, present and future. It is a celebration of America and Americans and depicts several things including life in a small town, how a musical production comes to a local stage and begins as "One person pulls out the Preamble to the Constitution, and they (members of an imaginary town) decide to use it as a framework for their show," states the information available about the play online at www.pioneerdrama.com. "Through a series of sketches and songs organized phrase by phrase from the Preamble, everyday life is showcased in both funny and touching vignettes, ... The review offers slices of life in America. Picnics, tributes to the military, letters home from war, all become part of this patchwork quilt of American life. This musical will serve as a fine reminder that the remarkable words written by our forefathers many years ago are still a living document, part of our lives each and every day." When America needs reminding of the hardships endured in the past to strengthen the resolve to get through the current economic crises, "We the People" provides a fresh look and deeper meaning to the roots of this country. Shadow Mountain Community Players will cast 12 to 39 roles for the production. Youth are welcome, but the suggested age is 14 or older because there are large amounts of dialogue to remember and players must be able to focus and take direction. There are also parts for a drummer, a piccolo player, soloists and technical crew. For more information call Gayle McCaslin, 727-6145, or e-mail her at shadowmtplayers@wmconnect.com. |
