Author speaks at Great Basin

Dr. Cheryll Glotfelty, Associate Professor of English at the University of Nevada, Reno, will speak on Nevada's literary heritage at 3 p.m. March 15 in Room 107 of Great Basin College, 551 E. Calvada Blvd.

Glotfelty is the editor of the state's first anthology. She is widely published on Western American literature in periodicals, essay collections and reference works.

Twelve years of literary sleuthing went into the collaboration of "Writings From the Silver State," recently published by the University of Nevada Press.

Teen Night

St. Martin's in the Desert Episcopal Church, NyE Communities Coalition and the Boys and Girls Club will host a Teen Night 6-9 p.m. March 20, at the Boys and Girls Club

Nye Gold Seekers outing

The Nye Gold Seekers will go hunting for gold this weekend.

The group will meet at 9 a.m., Saturday, March 14, in Burger King or at the Country Express convenience store on North Highway 160 at Country Place.

Museum lecture series

There will be another lecture at 1 p.m. March 14 at the Pahrump Valley Museum, 401 E. Basin Ave.

This month's speaker will be Dr. Bob McCracken on the Joseph Yount family; one of the first white settlers who stayed in the Pahrump Valley and made a living here.

McCracken, an educator, historian, writer and speaker, has authored 25 books, 14 of them on Nye County.

Poetry and coffee

The Poetry and Coffee group will meet at 10 a.m. March 14 at Lois Layne's Deli, corner of Dahlia Street and Basin Avenue.

Missoula Children's Theatre

The Pahrump Arts Council will host the Missoula Children's Theatre performance of "Robin Hood," scheduled to perform 2 and 6 p.m., March 14 in the PVHS auditorium.

Open auditions will begin at 4 p.m. March 9.

Fundraiser March 15

Michael "Tigger" Paul, a local musician, has been hospitalized at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

There will be a jam session/fundraiser to help with his medical expenses starting at 1 p.m. March 15 at Maverick's, 340 E. Mesquite Ave.

Spring ride and egg hunt

The National Wild Horse Association will hold the annual spring ride and Easter egg hunt April 5.

Breakfast will be at 8 a.m. and the ride at 10 a.m. The famous sizzling steak lunch will be at 1 p.m.

The cost to participate is $20 for the ride and lunch, $15 for lunch only.

Reservations should be made no later than March 31.

Gunfighters at 'Dusty Flats'

The Pahrump Gunfighters will be performing western skits and reenactments at 1 p.m. March 29 at Dusty Flats, next to the StageStop, 100 W. Stagecoach Road.

Admission is free, cameras are welcome.

Senior Resource Carnival

The annual Senior Resource Carnival will be 10-2 p.m. March 19 at the Pahrump Nugget Event Center.

There will be food, fun, information and raffles.
