Edward L. Mendenhall

Edward L. Mendenhall, 93, passed away Feb. 28, 2009, at Evergreen at Pahrump Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pahrump.

He was born May 31, 1915, in Denver Colo., and was a resident of Pahrump for 26 years, having come from San Jose, Calif.

He was a retired phone dispatcher for the Sunnyvale, Calif. Police Department and was a member of the local Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Johanna, of Pahrump; daughters Shirley (Jim) Conway of Centennial, Colo., Betty Locke of Englewood, Colo., and Joelle (Scott) Subjoc of Bangor, Maine; son Gary of New York; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Evergreen at Pahrump Health and Rehabilitation Center. (02/28/2009)

Sandra Jean Cozad

Sandra Jean Cozad, 59, passed away March 6, 2009, in the hospital.

She was born Nov. 6, 1949, in Chewelah, Wash., and was a resident of Pahrump for 14 years.

She was the world's best mom and a devoted wife.

She was a blackjack dealer.

She is survived by her husband, Jay Cozad; children Anthony and Amanda; grandchildren Aaron and Blaize; parents Dale Watt Perin and Jean Edith Schwartz and sisters Pamela, Peggy and Sue K.

Services will be at 3 p.m. March 13 at Pahrump Family Mortuary. (03/06/2009)

Paulina Marie Kuvelis

Paulina Marie Kuvelis, 45, of Pahrump, passed away March 5, 2009, suddenly of a brain aneurysm.

She was born June 1, 1963, in Las Vegas, and was a lifelong resident of Nevada.

Paulina was a bartender by trade. She loved people, her dog Summer, NASCAR, the Denver Broncos, fishing, cooking and playing Scrabble with her mother. Not necessarily in that order. She was a kind and giving person and loved life completely. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Paulina is survived by her mother, Joanne Podlogar; stepfather, Rodger Podlogar; her fiancé, Bobby Fairbanks; sisters, Rusti Madrigal and April (Dan) Mastroluca; brother, Paul Kuvelis; three nieces, two nephews and her best friend Nerissa Wood.

She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Kuvelis.

There will be a celebration of life at 11 a.m. March 14, at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, with a reception to follow. On Sunday, March 15, Irene's Casino will be having a tribute to her. Please sign Paulina's guest book on the Review-Journal's Web site. (03/05/2009)

Garry Thurman

Garry Thurman, 54, passed away March 1, 2009.

He was born Sept, 28, 1954.

Garry was a member of the Gents M.C. He loved to ride and party with the brothers and his friends.

He got great joy from organizing "runs" and benefits to help people who were sick or injured or the families of those who had passed on.

He will be truly missed by everyone who knew or had come in contact with him.

"Ride in peace, Brother."

A memorial will be held at noon, March 15 at The Hideaway Lounge on Pahrump Valley Boulevard. (03/01/2009)

Gilbert P. Dukes

Gilbert P. Dukes, 82, passed away Feb. 28, 2009, in Las Vegas.

He was born March 26, 1927, in Delaware, and was a resident of Pahrump for 12 years, having come from California.

He was a veteran of the Navy and served during Vietnam. He had a 12-year education and was of the Christian faith. He was retired.

He is survived by his wife, Lois of Pahrump; daughter Sandy Fox, son James Dukes and step-daughters Sharon Quinn and Patty Gardiner, all of Southern California; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Collette Pryor Hodge

Our loving mom and grandma Nana, Collette Pryor Hodge, passed away March 7, 2009.

Collette was born July 24, 1928, to Frank Irving Pryor and Ima Meyers Pryor.

On July 24, 1951, she married her sweetheart, Wade L. Hodge. They lived all around the country and finally made their home in Toole, Utah, where Collette resided until 1994. She then relocated to Pahrump, where she lived with her beloved daughter and son, her best friends.

She is survived by her sister, Norma and brother Mick; kids, Dennice Skelton, Brenda and Charlie Sisineros and Sheri and Ronnie Johnson; grandkids: Wade, Amanda, Taneille, Fontayne and Brian, Kristen and Josh and Jessica and Brandon; and great-grandkids Andaya, Emajia, Quintin, Erin and Elliya.

Services will be at 2 p.m. March 14 at 820 W. Kimberly St., in Pahrump. (03/07/2009)

Kenny Jermaine Austin

Kenny Jermaine Austin, 36, passed away March 3, 2009, at his residence in Pahrump.

He was born Dec. 27, 1972, in St. Louis, Mo.

He was the loving son of Allan and Patricia Austin of Pahrump.

Kenny moved to Pahrump from Modesto, Calif., where he worked as a customer service representative. He was an entrepreneur and a customer service representative in the state of Washington for several years.

Kenny is finally at peace. (03/03/2009)
