Informational seminar scheduled for Nevada Connections AcademyPVT
Nevada Connections Academy (NCA) will offer an informational seminar for parents seeking innovative education alternatives for their children at 6:30 p.m. April 27 in the Pahrump Senior Center. The program is tuition free and can be formatted to meet individual needs. Parents will have the opportunity to learn more about this highly accountable, high-quality virtual public school during the informal session. The session will also allow interested families to meet NCA's certified teachers and parents with children currently enrolled in the school. Curriculum samples will be available, and those in attendance will have the opportunity to get their questions answered. Participants will also learn how NCA's community coordinators arrange field trips and extracurricular activities for students and parents across the state as a means of education, fun and networking with others enrolled in the school. NCA is a unique public charter school combining the expertise and accountability of public education, the strong parental involvement of home schooling and the flexibility of technology-enhanced learning. Because it is a public school, there are no costs for tuition, fees or supplies. The school serves students in grades one through 12. The school also loans each family a computer, reimburses them for an Internet connection and provides all curriculum materials -- several large boxes of textbooks per child, workbooks and hands-on materials -- that make up the core of NCA's print-rich curriculum. NCA also provides the software and free technical support to ensure the computer is working properly. Each NCA student is also assigned a professional, Nevada-certified teacher to oversee learning and assess the student's progress.
