Beatty's boys advanced in post-season basketball play further than any other Nye County team and won 14 games while finishing among the top four teams in the Southern Nevada Class A League.

One the reasons why the Brian Hayes-coached Hornets were so competitive was because of the play of senior guard Joe Serrano.

His defensive efforts and 3-point shooting offensively kept the pressure on opponents all season -- which is why Serrano was named to the all-Southern 1-A boys basketball first team by league coaches.

And Hayes, because of his team's performance, was named coach of the year in the league.

Lake Mead senior guard Jeffrey Newton and junior guard De'Quan Thompson were voted by coaches as league Co-Most Valuable Player. Junior guard Landon Littlefield was voted onto the first team.

Also on the first team are Las Vegas Trinity's Budweiser Hawkins, Henderson International's Clay Tormey and Danny Moerman, Pahranagat Valley's Cody Hoiser and Brady Whipple and Spring Mountain's Davonte Sandifer.

Lake Mead (25-8) won its second straight 1-A state title with a 59-49 win over Pahranagat Valley at the Orleans Arena on Saturday. One of the Eagles' post-season wins was a 58-32 conquest of Beatty in the regional semifinals at Desert Oasis.

Second-team honors went to Indian Springs' Junior Baker, Brady Hughes and Patrick McClain, Round Mountain's Will Sweeney and Clint Wilson, Spring Mountain's Terence Green, Beatty's Jacob Sumpter and Anthony Regalado, Pahranagat Valley's Taylor Poulsen and Lake Mead's Cameron Cornish.

* Lund's girls (20-4) went 9-0 in league during the regular season but lost to league foe Pahranagat Valley 52-42 in the 1-A state title game Saturday at the Orleans Arena.

Lund senior guard guard Keisha Stewart was named Most Valuable Player. The Mustangs' Shane Boren was named coach of the year.

Lund also had Katie Whipple named to the first team, Ale Vega and Kara Rimington to the second team.

The first team includes Whipple, Pahranagat Valley's Mary Higbee, Halie Lewis and Dakota Day and Round Mountain's Tana Berg.

The second team has Beatty's Autumn Spicer and Nichole Stucker, Lund's Ale Vega and Kara Rimington and Round Mountain's Kattrena Akers.
