Golfers first to play; at Boulder

The first action for Pahrump Valley High School spring sports teams will be Thursday, when the Trojans' boys golf team travels to Boulder City to play its former Southern Nevada Class 3-A League rivals.

Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, Overton Moapa Valley, Mesquite Virgin Valley and Boulder City will join the Trojans at Boulder Creek, with the first tee time 11 a.m.

It is the first of four 18-hole matches the Trojans will play against their 3-A opponents this spring. The other dates are March 12 (at Mountain Falls, the Trojans' home opener), March 20, at Palms and April 23, at Coyote Springs.

Coach Bob Hopkins' team is in Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A and will play division matches March 23 (at Canyon Gate), April 2 (at Mountain Falls), April 14 (at Rhodes Ranch), April 21 (at Red Rock Arroyo), April 28 (at Angel Park), May 5 (at Sienna) and May 7 (at Primm).

The Pahrump Valley baseball team, coached by Chris Iverson, will open March 12 at River Valley (Ariz.), playing Bullhead City Mojave at 11:30 a.m. in the Route 66 Invitational. The Trojans will play host River Valley at 7 p.m. March 12; Spring Creek at 4:30 p.m. March 13; Ely White Pine at 11:30 a.m. and Chino, Ariz., at 4:30 p.m. March 14.

The Trojans' home opener is March 16 against Class 3-A Boulder City (3:30 p.m.). PV's first (of 16) 4-A division game is March 24 at home against Las Vegas Clark. Pahrump Valley will play in the Durango Invitational April 6-7-8.

Pahrump Valley's fast-pitch softball team, with Rich Lauver back as coach after a year's hiatus, will play in the Route 66 tournament at River Valley March 13-14.

The Lady Trojans take pm Kofa (Ariz.) at 10 a.m. March 13; on the same day, they will face Escondido, Calif., at 2 p.m. and host River Valley (Ariz.) at 6 p.m.

On March 14, PV will play Phoenix Horizon Christian at 1 p.m.

Coach Andy Schneider's track team goes to Las Vegas Faith Lutheran March 17 for a tri-meet against the host Crusaders and Western, a Southwest 4-A rival.

The Trojans are in the Louise Heitkotter Invitational March 24 a Faith Lutheran. Pahrump Valley's first home meet is March 25, with 4-A rivals Desert Oasis and Durango to compete.

Pahrump Valley goes to the Las Vegas Invitational at Del Sol March 28.

* Beatty's spring sports teams are in preseason workouts.

The track team, coached by Connie and Jerry Adcox, goes to the Laughlin Invitational March 14 and is scheduled to run March 25 at Pahrump Valley.

Coach Brian Hayes' baseball team is in the Pahranagat Valley Invitational at Alamo March 13-14.

The fast-pitch softball team, coached by Loy Koeller, opens March 23 against Southern Nevada Class A League opponent Indian Springs, on the Thunderbirds' diamond.

NOTES -- The double-elimination Sunset 4-A baseball regionals are May 12 at host sites (first round). May 13 at Durango and Centennial, May 14 at both sites and May15, at Durango ... The Class A baseball tournament is May 14-16, with locations in Clark County and at Alamo ... Class 4-A boys golf regionals will be played the week of May 11-15; Mountain Falls is among the possible sites ... The 1-A softball regionals are May 14-16 at various locations ... Class 4-A regional softball action begins May 12, with all games at the Stephanie Lynn Craig Fields in Henderson.
