RCMS sports

Registration for the Rosemary Clarke Middle School golf team will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Sharks' gym.

All prospects must have a physical examination on file. Forms for the examinations are available in the RCMS main office for those students who have not had a physical exam during this school year.

Cost for golf is $35, which is due at the time of registration. Cash or money orders only are accepted.

Call extension 5121 at the school, or e-mail mbennett@nye.k12.nv.us for other information. Students interested in golf can go to room E-121 and see Mr. Bennett.

* The Rosemary Clarke Middle School track team will hold registration at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Sharks' gym. All prospects must have a physical examination form on file.

Bocce ball

Special Olympics bocce ball will begin March 12, at the courts in Honeysuckle Park.

Basketball is still being played at J.G. Johnson School on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to noon. Track and field will start March 21 at the Pahrump Valley High School track; it runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Youth baseball

Pahrump Valley Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken League baseball has a few openings available in all divisions.

Teams are now practicing; youngsters interested in playing, but are not yet registered, can stop by Honeysuckle Park and ask for a coach to get information.

Age groups are 4 to 18, with May 1 the age determination date. T-Ball and Rookies will be in the 4-8 age groups; Minor, Major, Junior, Senior in the 9-18 age groups.

The cost will be $65 for 4-8s and $95 for 9 to 18s. Payment arrangements will be available. For information, call 751-9595.

So far, there are more than 360 players registered, with the season to begin March 28. There are five Minor, four Major and four Junior teams scheduled to play this season.

Opening Day is March 28, at 9 a.m. at Honeysuckle Park.

Quarter Auction

The 2009 Quarter Auction -- the major fundraiser for Pahrump Valley's junior golf programs -- will be March 14 at the Pahrump Nugget.

The fundraiser, which has raised more than $100,000 since its inception in the early 1990s, annually attracts more than 300 people, who go after some major prizes -- and can win one by donating at least a quarter.

The admission price is $20 or $60 and makes the purchaser eligible to win prizes. The money pays for scholarships and other expenses incurred in running Pahrump Valley Youth Golf Founders Club programs.

Basketball

Youth basketball continues at Ninth Grade Academy Friday and continues Saturday, as well as March 13-14.

Coaching the boys' teams are Tim Wombaker, John Toomer, Andy Andersen, Bryan Holmes, Robert Worden, Steve Jersic, Steve Bahret, Garth Oakey, Dave Harris and Oscar Lopez.

Girls coaches are Renae Lindgren, Susan Toomer, Tommy Cochrell, Joe Roderick, Doug Maughan, Chaz Chumley and Steve Behret.

Players sought

The Pahrump Valley Predators baseball club is seeking two or three additional players for the 2009 season.

The team is for 11- and 12-year-old boys. The season was to begin March 1, so players are needed as soon as possible.

Camps slated

Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten-Star All-Star Basketball Camp, for boys and girls 10 to 19 years old.
