Legislators push 'green' energy

The list of 1,247 bill draft requests for the 2009 state Legislature full of renewable energy legislation.

They include a bill requested by Assemblywoman Sheila Lesie, D.-Reno, that would create a state Renewable Energy Transmission Authority.

The Green Jobs Bill, introduced by several senators, would require the State Public Works Board, individual school districts and the board of regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education to establish projects to retrofit public buildings for renewable energy in conjunction with the Obama administration's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas, sponsored a bill draft request that would establish a program for government financing of renewable energy improvements as part of a solar energy system.

Assemblyman David Bobzien, D-Reno, requested a number of energy bills, including one that would make changes to provisions governing the Solar Energy Systems Incentive Program.

Nevada Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, D-Las Vegas, wants an Assembly joint resolution that will urge the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to deed land suitable for developing renewable energy projects to the state fo jump-start those projects.

Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick, D-North Las Vegas, wants to revise provisions governing renewable energy credits.

Sen. Shirley Breeden, D-Henderson, wants a bill that will require utility companies to invest in conservation and energy-efficient programs that benefit consumers.

She also wants to make it easier for residents to purchase and install energy-efficient equipment like solar panels.

RCMS testing schedule

Rosemary Clarke Middle School will adhere to the following test schedule for students.

It is important that students be in school on these dates, schedule other appointments accordingly.;

March 4 -- Math, seventh grade;

March 5 -- Math, eighth grade;

March 4-9 -- Math make up for grades 6-8;

March 10 -- Reading, sixth grade;

March 11 -- Reading, seventh grade;

March 12 -- Reading, eighth grade and

March 11-16 -- Reading make up for grades 6-8.
