FISHING

QUAGGA REMINDER: The Nevada Department of Wildlife is asking boaters to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of quagga mussels from the Colorado River system to other waters.

Thoroughly clean, drain and dry your boat, trailer and towing vessel before traveling to another water.

EAGLE VALLEY

RESERVOIR

Weeds are starting to be an issue at northern reservoirs. Floating baits fished on a leader long enough to keep the bait above the weeds should net a few fish. From the shoreline anglers should look for holes in the weeds where fish might be hanging out.

ECHO CANYON

RESERVOIR

The reservoir offers good rainbow trout fishing for anglers using floating baits, earthworms and small hardware. Bass fishing should remain good into the summer months.

LAKE MEAD

Striper action along the beaches has been good. Anglers taking the time to chum them up are catching lots of fish.

They aren't huge but are nice fish nonetheless. Shore anglers have also been catching fish, but the action isn't quite as good there as in the boats.

The Vegas Wash arm has seen some top-water action with calm days being most productive. Stewarts Point has also been productive for anglers making the trip to the Overton Arm.

LAKE MOHAVE

Anglers are finding fair action out of Cottonwood. Stripers are hitting cut bait -- sardines, anchovies and squid -- fished from the shore or trolled behind a boat.

Catfish are also showing up in the bag. Largemouth and smallies are taking jigs, worms and hardware. Trout fishing has improved at Willow Beach where anglers have been reeling in fish with PowerBait in salmon egg and rainbow colorations.

Morning hours are most productive. Striper fishing in the upper lake has been slow.

LAUGHLIN

Fishing was good over the weekend at Big Bend State Park. Fly anglers did well with streamer patterns for stripers and largemouth bass.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Weeds are making access tough for boaters. Trout and largemouth bass are both biting if you can get to them.

From boat or from shore the key is finding a hole in the weeds. Shore anglers are finding success with floating baits. Fly-anglers have found success with red and black Woolly Buggers with a spinner blade.

URBAN PONDS

The department planted channel catfish in the urban ponds on Thursday, June 11. Night crawlers, chicken liver and stink baits should catch the fish.

Fish on the bottom. For bluegill try fishing mealworms below a bobber. The next catfish stocking will be in mid-July.
