Task force makes arrests
By GINA B. GOOD
On Tuesday, June 16, Pahrump streets were made safer after 22 arrests of individuals heavily involved in the narcotics sub-culture were made by members of the Nye County Sheriff's Office SCORPION Narcotics Task Force and the NCSO Street Crimes Unit. Nye County's officers were joined by the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (F.I.S.T.) which also included members of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Nevada Department of Public Safety. SCORPION had obtained arrest warrants for dozens of individuals in the Pahrump Valley, mainly for the crimes of trafficking in narcotics, sales of narcotics and cultivation of marijuana. In addition to the arrests, several others who were already in custody for other crimes were (or will be) rebooked on the new drug charges. An additional arrest was made by F.I.S.T. team members in Las Vegas. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced yesterday, June 18, that I.C.E. and D.E.A. were entered into a new interagency agreement to increase the number of agents targeting international drug traffickers, with the goal of and enhancing information and intelligence sharing. The agencies also hope to promote effective coordination between the two agencies. |
