Bloodsuckers invade park on Saturday
By GINA B. GOOD
Free movies are back for the third year at Honeysuckle Park starting Saturday night with "Twilight," a vampire flick based on the popular Twilight series of four fantasy, romance novels by Stephenie (cq) Meyer. The movie is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and the movie begins at dusk, around 8:30 p.m. If you're not afraid to spend an evening watching a coven of bloodsuckers, this movie may be just your cup of ... er, plasma. Bring folding chairs or a blanket to sit on the grass. Popcorn will be sold at the park. There is no smoking or alcohol allowed inside the park. Drinks in plastic bottles are allowed, but ice chests are prohibited. Parents and caregivers are asked to keep their children close and quiet during the film. The town is paying for the movies through the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. A large blow up screen and professional sound system will be set up by a crew from Las Vegas. A little online research shows that Twilight is about a teenage girl who is sent to live in a small town in Washington. At school, she falls in love with a classmate who turns out to be a 108-year-old vampire. Results of an online survey of 428 voters said 11.2 percent responded that the 2008 release was okay for kids age 8 and up; 46.3 said it was okay for children 10 and up to see and 42.5 said it was okay for kids age 13 and up. The Twilight books were the biggest selling novels of 2008, on the USA Today best selling books list. Other dates for free movies at Honeysuckle Park are: July 11, Marley & Me; July 18, Beverly Hills Chihuahua; July 25, Journey to the Center of the Earth; August 1, Ironman; August 8, Nim's Island and July 12, Ink Heart. |
