A head on collision Sunday, June 14, about 12:20 p.m. demonstrated to two drivers how unpredictable life can be. Fortunately, both survived the accident, but their vehicles did not.

A 4-by-4 Dodge truck and a Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Christopher Demille, 19, of Pahrump, headed toward each other on Blagg Road. According to his brother, who was called to the scene, Demille reached for his cell phone and unwittingly steered his car into the oncoming lane.

The Dodge drove up onto the Grand Prix before crashing on the side of the road, losing its front axle, which folded underneath the truck's chassis.

Fortunately for Demille, the truck rolled off the passenger's side, pushing in the windshield on that side but missing the driver's side of the car.

Nearby neighbors who responded to the scene said the driver of the truck, whose name was not released, was "white as a sheet" but did not appear harmed.

However, the Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue Services ambulance transported him to Desert View Hospital.

Demille, who was running an errand for his mother, was not injured. The entire front end of his car was smashed.
