Family Pharmacy, located on 1360 E. Highway 372 in the new Plaza Center, is a family-owned and run business that is unique in its special features which include family-oriented assistance and care. Other features include delivery and compounding.

Owner Ali Raza, who been a pharmacist for 17 years, decided he wanted to open a pharmacy in Pahrump when he surveyed the area and found no independent pharmacies in the community. He said the customer service provided by Family Pharmacy is something that major chain retail pharmacies cannot provide.

"We want you to walk in and for us to know your face," Raza said. "We're not like the big corporations who treat you like a number. With us you will never be a number."

Family Pharmacy will also provide compounding for Bioidential Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT), pain management and dermatology. Compounding is a way of preparing medications and prescriptions drugs for specific customer needs. This includes elimination of preservatives or adjustment in dosage, according to Family Pharmacy's Web site.

"Many pharmacies do not provide this feature," Raza said.

Raza said flexibility and the special features Family Pharmacy offers will be a great help to the community. An opening special is a free seven-day pill cabinet. The special will run until August. Features include over-the-counter medications, filling veterinary prescriptions and prescriptions for diabetes, arthritis and asthma.

"We're also going to be providing free delivery until August," Raza said.
