Borasky prefers keeping impact fees

County Commisioner Butch Borasky was asked in May by town board member Vicky Parker about his opinion on building impact fees. At the June 9 town board meeting, Borasky made a brief statement, saying he had researched the subject.

In his opinion, the most immediate affect of repealing impact fees would be, "this source of future revenues would be eliminated and either the taxpayers would have to make up the difference or the levels of service would diminish since the facilities (or infrastructure) would not be expanded to meet the demands of new growth."

He also said, "It is unlikely that developers would leave Nye County because it has impact fees. In fact, there is a study that shows a correlation between having impact fees and job growth.

"The thinking is that communities that keep their infrastructure up, even as growth occurs, maintain a quality of life that perpetuates growth."

Borasky suggested that one of the reasons roads are "so bad" in Pahrump is because "in the past, impact fees were not collected and developers came in and took advantage of that fact."

He also said he would never support waiving impact fees because it would result in taxpayers paying for infrastructure improvements at a later date.
