Nye transplants birds from 'duck ghetto'
The quacking of ducks and honking of geese was a little quieter around the Calvada duck pond Monday morning, after a host of animal control officers drastically thinned the flock, transplanting them to the Bowman pond temporarily.

Nye won't release bucks for schools
About 50 people crammed into the Bob Ruud Community Center Tuesday morning to support a request by the Nye County School District for $1.8 million in the Educational Endowment Fund.

County Commisioner Butch Borasky was asked in May by town board member Vicky Parker about his opinion on building impact fees. At the June 9 town board meeting, Borasky made a brief statement, saying he had researched the subject.

71 BEDS: Waiver from parking code allows assisted living center
Developer Curt Moen expects to break ground on a 71-bed, assisted-living facility by the end of July right behind his Pahrump Early Learning Academy at 1560 S. Java Ave., after receiving a waiver on parking requirements from the Pahrump Regional Planning Commission Wednesday.

RENO -- A record $23 million-plus in federal payments is heading to Nevada counties this year to help offset losses in property taxes due to nontaxable federal lands within their boundaries.

Federal judge throws out Meeks suit
