Fall sports For prospective Pahrump Valley High school athletes, there are several important facts to remember. * An appropriate physical examination / registration form must be on file in the athletics department office. * Athletes must have health insurance coverage; any one not having coverage can purchase it through the school. * All student-athletes must meet Nevada and Nye County School District academic eligibility requirements. Each prospect must have passed at least four classes in the second semester of the 2008-2009 school year and must have a grade point average of at least 2.0. Junior golf The Pahrump Valley Junior Golf Association's annual mandatory clinic will be held Wednesday and Thursday at Mountain Falls. Beginners will meet each day from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., while current PVJGA members will be in session from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $20 to register for the clinic and $20 for annual membership in the PVJGA. All golfers must attend the clinic to participate in weekly summer tournaments and monthly events year-round. Send registration and fees to PVJGA, 2440 S. River Plate Dr., Pahrump, NV 89048. Financial assistance may be available if students cannot afford to attend; for information, call 727-6670. PV boosters The Pahrump Valley High School Athletics Boosters will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. in Wulfy's banquet room. This is the first summer meeting of the organization. For information, contact Cindy Colucci at 727-3010. Kids softball The Pahrump Youth Softball Association for girls will conduct car washes in the Wulfy's parking lot Saturday and June 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as fundraisers. Kids' grid camp An instructional camp for youth football players ages 5-11 will be held July 6-10 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Pahrump Valley High School field. The camp will provide basic football skills instruction, fun football contests and motivational talks designed to prepare players for the upcoming Pop Warner season. The cost of the camp is $40 and is due at registration on the first day of camp. Only cash will be accepted. The camp will be hosted by Pahrump Pop Warner coaches and all proceeds will benefit the teams. Softball aid The Pahrump Youth Softball Association is looking for individuals or companies who would like to support three all-star teams in their tournament travels this summer. Anyone who can help with a donation should call Cyndi at 727-7098 or 513-7562 or check out the Web site at pahrumpyouthsoftball.org. Pahrump Youth Softball is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Pop Warner Registration is now open for the 2009 Pop Warner football season. Players 5 to 7 years old and weighing 75 pounds or less play for one team; the second team is for youth 8 to 11 who weigh 105 pounds or less. The age is as of July 31, 2009. The cost of registration is $180. Registration forms can be picked up, and completed, at Worden's Farmers Insurance Agency, 2210 E. Commercial Road (off Highway 160 at the Nevada State Bank). Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Pahrump Pop Warner teams play in the Southern Nevada Conference. The Rush is in the Pee-Wee Division (ages 8 to 11) and will be coached by Robert Worden. The Sharks of the tiny-mite division (ages 5 to 7) will be coached by Damon Plant. 'Pistol Pat' The first Pistol Pat Tailormade Basketball Shooting Camp, scheduled Monday through June 18, is full, so Pat Williams has scheduled a second session. The second camp will be June 29-July 3 and will be for boys and girls ages 6-13. The times are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 29-July 2, 9 a.m. to noon, July 3. Hoop camps * Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten-Star All-Star Basketball Camp, for boys and girls 10 to 19 years old. For information, call 1-704-373-0873, or go to the Web site, www.ten-starcamp.com. * Advantage Basketball camps are now accepting registrations for the 2009 summer camp at the Tarkanian Basketball Academy, 2730 S. Horseshoes TONOPAH -- The Tonopah Chuckers is hosting a sanctioned horseshoe pitching tournament Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. at the Joe Friel Sports Complex here. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. A non-sanctioned high-low event will be staged Sunday, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Farmers Cup The Farmers Cup Adult-Junior Golf Series will be played Sunday, as well as July 12 and Aug. 9. Robert Worden, the series director, said information on the event can be found by e-mailing him at rworden@farmersagent.com, or by calling 910-9624. The tournament format calls for an adult and a junior player to form a team for medal play. Players 6-8 and 9-11 will play nine-hole matches, while players 12-14 and 15-18 will compete in 18-hole rounds. The costs are $20 for all junior players; $25 for adults playing with a 6-8 or 9-11 golfer and $35 for adults playing in an 18-hole match. Pre-registration will be required before each match, with the deadlines today for the first round, July 8 for the second, and Aug. 5 for the finale. All matches will be played at Mountain Falls. First-place medals will be awarded in each division. First-, second- and third-place teams in each age division will receive medals. PV: key dates * July 15: Physical examination and registration forms will be available at Pahrump Valley High School; summer hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. * Aug. 3: Early registration will be held from noon to 8 p.m. in the PVHS AD's office. Bring completed physical and registration forms. Physicals must be done by a doctor, not chiropractors. Every student must have a new physical examination each year. The forms are available at the school and should be picked up before going to the doctor. These forms will be available July 15. * Aug. 10: Final registration will be held from noon to 6 p.m. in the AD's office. Student-athletes must be registered by this date to be eligible to participate. Anyone having problems meeting this requirement should contact the AD's office (727-7908). Aug. 13: This is the first official day for football practice. Aug. 17: All remaining fall sports (girls volleyball, girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer) start preseason workouts. Girls soccer could be a winter sport; that decision will be made at the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association meeting June 16-17. Aug. 24: First day of school. |
