PAVED meets

PAVED will meet at 5 p.m. June 16 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

The speaker will be John Carich from Zee Dynamics. PAVED is wanting to assist the company, which has purchased a zeolite mine in Amargosa Valley, with opening a milling center in Pahrump.

SHIP training class

JobConnect will hold a "Medicare Overview and Volunteer Recruitment Training" 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 16 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 30 at 1541 E. Basin Ave., Room 8.

SHIP volunteers provide free health insurance information for seniors and pre-retirees by answering questions about Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicare Advantage, prescription coverage, long-term care insurance and low income assistance.

JobConnect is seeking volunteers to participate in an intensive four-day training course.

Marine Corps League meets

The Pahrump Community Library Summer Reading Club is coming soon.

A kick-off presentation with storyteller Glenda Bonin, "Just imagine: Stories for the fun of it," will be 10 a.m. June 16.

Regular classes will begin the following week: ages 4-5, 9-10 a.m., Wednesday; ages 6-11, 1-2:15 p.m., Tuesdays or 10:30-11:45 a.m., Wednesdays; fifth grade and up, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesdays.

Pancake breakfast

The Nye County Democratic Party will have a pancake breakfast 8 to 11 a.m., June 14 at the Pahrump Senior Center.

Tickets will be available at the door.

League of Women Voters meets

The Pahrump League of Women voters will meet at 6:30 p.m. June 20 at Great Basin College-Calvada Campus.

This will be the first annual election and installation of the executive board. Men and women are invited to attend. Guests are welcome.

P.O.S.S. schedule

* This nonprofit organization is looking for sponsors for the buckle show, regular shows and year-end awards. Donations are deductible and businesses will receive advertising on the Web site and at the shows.

* The buckle show is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 27 in McCullough Arena. The judge will be Todd Goodwin of Sandy Valley.

The Pahrump Chamber of Commerce will host the "We the People" Jubilee starting at 10 a.m. July 4 at the Pahrump Nuggets.

Free computer class

Nye County Health and Human Services through a Community Service Block Grant will join with Great Basin College and Nevada JobConnect to offer a free one day, basic computer training class from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Nevada JobConnect offices, 1541 E. Basin Ave.

The free class is open for those meeting income requirements, grant requirements, are seeking employment and who desire skills to create cover letters and resumes, use Internet browsers and e-mail, etc.

There are 20 spaces available. Required documents must be provided and eligibility satisfied in order to take the class.

Seminar for diabetics

Desert View Hospital, in cooperation with Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, will present a "Know Your Numbers" program 10-11 a.m. June 17 in the training room at Desert View Hospital.

Volunteer youth for NAH

Eagle Scout blood drive

Library notices

* The Pahrump Community Library will have new hours starting June 15.

The hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday and closed Sundays and holidays.

* The Pahrump Community Library is accepting applications for volunteer security persons. Volunteers are asked to give five to 10 hours per week.

Applications are available at the main circulation desk.

* The Pahrump Community Library is looking for adult literacy tutors. There are students waiting.

Adults interested in getting help with reading skills, call 727-5930, ext. 19.

The service is free.

Relay for Life

Relay for Life, Pahrump Valley, will hold the annual run/walk Aug. 15 and 16 at Petrack Park.

All money raised before, during and after the event will stay here for cancer services.

The American Cancer Society has a gift closet at Desert View Hospital where cancer patients can get wigs, supplements and other items.

Patients may also apply for gas cards and gift Visa cards to help during treatments. For more information go to www.cancer.org.

Drivers are needed to transport patients to appointments and treatments. The service depends on local support.

Summer hours for NOTO

Nevada Outreach Training Organization will begin summer hours on June 1.

All program offices for No to Abuse and the Pahrump Family Resource Center will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

4-H

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Southern Nye County 4-H Culture Club is seeking youth age 9 and up who want to learn to knit or crochet.

Currently, this 4-H project group meets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Enrollment dues are $1 per year for most project clubs.

Donation of yarn of any weight/color would be appreciated.
