Roy Paul Shawgo III, 50, has been charged with falsifying an insurance application.

Monday, June 8, as an agent for Aflac Insurance, Shawgo solicited business allegedly knowingly using false information in order to get insurance approved, according to the sheriff's department.

According to the Nye County Sheriff's Office, the insurance would otherwise have not been granted.

Tuesday, at approximately 6 p.m., Shawgo kept an appointment in the parking lot at Walmart with a client who is an employee of the county. Shawgo knew his client had a hardship due to a medical issue and had told the person he would be entitled to a large sum of money if Shawgo back-dated his insurance application.

When the fraudulent application was completed and signed, sheriff's deputies placed Shawgo under arrest and booked him into the Nye County Detention Center for insurance fraud. He has since posted bail.

Shawgo's computer was seized as evidence.

Sheriff Tony DeMeo is asking anyone who has dealt with Shawgo as an Aflac agent and believes he or she may have unknowingly entered into a similar situation to contact Det. David Boruchowitz, 751-7000.

Shawgo and his wife Olesya, 38, were arrested Jan. 22, charged with three counts each for allegedly setting fire to their home at 951 W. Lupin St., October 12, 2008.

They were charged at the time with first-degree arson, arson with intent to defraud insurance and solicitation to commit arson. The arrests culminated an investigation by the state Fire Marshal's Office and Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue Services. That case continues in the judicial system.
