It was an exciting morning at Floyd Elementary School Friday, May 15, when the Mercy Air helicopter landed on the soccer field among a variety of vehicles and their drivers, who were on hand for the first annual Floyd Elementary Careers on Wheels Day.

It was designed to make the vital connection between "real life" work experience and what the students are learning each day in their classrooms.

Participants included Nye Gold Seekers, the EPA, Heath Co. Distributors, Pahrump Valley Disposal, KNYE Radio, Mercy Air, Pink Jeep, Desert Towing, Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue, Desmoni Plumbing, the Nye County Sheriff's Office, Las Vegas Metro Police Department, Channel 41 and Valley Electric Association.

They shared the educational requirements necessary to be successful their respective careers and also connected those requirements to what the students are learning at the school.

Students were engaged, asking questions, thinking about their futures and enjoying the hands-on learning process.

The Student Council assisted Mrs. Beauparlant in organizing the event.
