Rotary sponsors big golf tourney
By GINA B. GOOD
Ninety-four players participated in the Rotary Club of Pahrump Valley fundraising golf tournament at Mountain Falls Golf Club Saturday. At the end of 18 holes, played in a Las Vegas style scramble, three teams tied for first with scores of 61. The final ranking was determined by a play-off, ending finally at the tenth hole. First place was taken by the team sponsored by Desert View Hospital. Players were Bill Kohbarger, Pat Foley, Mark Forry and Tim Farkas. The Boys and Girl's Aid Society of Las Vegas sponsored the second-place team. Players were John Meyer, Todd Morse, Matt Nelson and Robert Brinton. Kenneth Peterson, Steven Miller, Greg Wynn and John Mulcahy took third place. Their team was sponsored by Impressions Window Coverings of Pahrump. There was a kick-off Friday evening at Terrible's Lakeside Casino, starring The Great Golfini, followed by cocktails and a barbecue. "We have a great committee who worked hard to put this thing together," said Rotary member James Oscarson. "In times like this, it's nice to come together and support the community. We have some opportunities for people to win prizes and money. For our next golf tournament, on Oct. 10, someone will win $10,000." The first place team's trophy cup is on display at the Mountain Falls Clubhouse for the next year, until the 2010 tournament. "Our sponsors are what really help us generate funding for our many projects in Pahrump throughout the year," said Sydney Hatch, one of the tournament organizers. "The per- person entry fee just covers our costs, with a very small portion going to our community projects. However, part of our community service is providing fun events for our fundraisers and we feel this one was enjoyed by all." Gold sponsors for the tournament were: Walmart, 1st International Bank, Cahlan West LLC and Desert View Hospital. Tee sponsors were: Pahrump Nugget, Valley Electric, Impressions Window Coverings, McCaws Mountain View Casino, Ron Kent, Saitta Trudeau auto dealership, Brian Strain of State Farm, Humania Inc., Romero's, Terrible's Lakeside and Terrible's Town, Heflin Building Systems, High Impact Signs, Frazier Furniture, Available Properties, Martinizing Dry Cleaning, Paula Elefante, Lakowski Construction, Silverbrook Homes, Dr. George Leaks, Neighborhood House Cleaning, Lillian Donohue, All Creatures Animal Hospital, Sentsy Candles and Hafen Enterprises. |
