Onion reservoir could be stocked
RENO (AP) -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife plans to stock a popular northern Nevada fishery with trout for the first time in three years. Fishing season at Onion Valley Reservoir north of Winnemucca near the Nevada-Oregon line opens June 13. Wildlife officials hope to stock 4,000 rainbow trout as early as this week, but that could depend on the conditions of the rugged roads in the Pine Forest Mountain range. The reservoir was essentially drained in late 2005 for dam repairs. Some fish were stocked in early 2006, but the reservoir went dry later that summer. Dry winters and low water levels prevented fish planting the next two years. |
