Thanks for Flag Day help

The members of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15, would like to thank all of the persons involved in the June 14 Flag Day celebration.

A special thanks to the Nye County Republican committee, Saddle West Casino and CCA (detention center) organizations for their participation in the festivities. More than $600 was donated to the chapter to help the many needy veterans in Pahrump.

A very special thanks to Linda DeMeo and Tanya Metaksa for their tireless efforts and many hours of preparation.

Thank you.

ROBERT AHRENDT

Disabled American Veterans commander, Chapter 15

Angry at the Ensigns

My wife and I owned Nicco's Pizza/Lil Yellow Submarine, which was located in the Pahrump Nugget. I contacted your paper approximately two years ago relating to the Ensigns selling the Pahrump Nugget, which caused us to lose our entire life savings, home, income, etc.

Why I'm writing now is to inform you that I told you the family was not honest, and now I keep hearing about the Ensign family paying over $90,000 to keep people quiet but they couldn't deal fairly with a working family who lost everything because of their underhanded deals.

I am so angry because now we're barely able to keep a roof over our heads, and my wife's health has gotten so bad because of the extra stress where she is unable to function.

If you think this is a scam e-mail, just do a little investigating.

Great help with benefit

My name is Amy Riches. I am the one who put on the benefit for S.N.A.P.S., Dream Chaser Horse Rescue and West Star Dog Shelter July 25 and 26 in the Pahrump Nugget parking lot. It was a big success.

I would like to say thank you to Dawn House. She worked with me every step of the way.

And to Jeremy Jensen of the Nugget. He went above and beyond to help make it a success.

And to the Pahrump Nugget itself, for allowing me to hold it there. They really care about the community.

Thanks to Don and Donna Cox, Kim and Butch Clendenen and Bryce Calley for all the behind-the-scenes help.

Also thanks to Al Balloqui and Missy Arms for helping me through the permit process. And to Julia Lawrence of the chamber of commerce. It would not have been possible without our wonderful vendors.

Most of all thanks to the community for their love and support, who came out to say thank you and opened their wallets. God bless you.

These are the forgotten angels of our community who do so much.

Thanks for people like you

The Relay for Life of Pahrump committee would like to thank the Pahrump Nugget and Jim Clancy for making the second annual Relay Bowling Fundraiser a very successful event.

We had 89 bowlers and raised a total of $720 to help fight cancer.

Also, thank you to the participants, volunteers and all those who donated prizes for the chance drawings.

It's people like you who truly make a difference in this world.

Solar, wind there

for the asking

Speaker of the House Harry Reid, who has the president's ear, says that Yucca Mountain is dead.

Nye County Commissioner Gary Hollis, who has long supported anything that Department of Energy wants to do, says Yucca Mountain is very much alive and is needed.

The $11 billion that has been spent on Yucca Mountain seems to be a huge hit to take if it goes down the drain, but its nothing compared the the canceling of the F22 fighter plane contracts.

If we really need high-priced nuclear energy, we should be building re-cycling plants like the ones that have been built around the world.

Gary Hollis should be familiar with them because of the "fact-finding" trips the DOE has sent him on to see how other countries handle their waste. Eventually, the waste is going to have to be re-cycled because storage space will soon be used up. We may as well convince the DOE to start doing that now instead of adding to the woes of the economy by pouring more of our tax dollars into the Yucca hole in the ground.

Gary has been quoted as saying we should be part of the solution, not the problem. How many nuclear plants does Nevada have that we should be the garbage dump for the rest of the country?

Solar and wind technology have been there for the asking. Even our National Laboratories in Golden, Colo., has, for years, been helping China and Mexico develop theirs while very little has been done here because of the DOE's agenda.

Great people here in Pahrump

A great big heartfelt thank you goes out to all the people who stopped to help me July 15, at 6:15 a.m., when I rolled my SUV on North 160. A special thanks to the man in the blue shirt and the woman in the white printed top who were the first at the scene and called 911.

Thank you to the fire department emergency personnel who gave excellent care while transporting me to Desert View Hospital. The hospital staff was very thorough and concerned and a great big thanks goes out to all of them.

Finally, thank you to all of my friends who sent a card or called to see if I was OK. Yes, I'm OK. My pride was hurt more than anything, other than the car. I just thank God the traffic was light that morning and I did not involve anyone else in the accident. I apologize to everyone that was delayed and inconvenienced that morning. A special apology to Elke and Celeste.

July 17, Bob was driving the Karmann Ghia to town when it suddenly died. Thank you, Vern, for bringing Bob home. Since we no longer had a vehicle to tow with -- see paragraph above -- thanks go out to Coni and Rich for their truck and car trailer, even though the trailer's electric winch battery was dead. After hooking up our car trailer to their truck, the Ghia was finally retrieved.

More thanks goes out to all the people who stopped to ask if we needed assistance in the late afternoon of Saturday, July 25. We were on Blagg just north of Bell Vista in the Fiat, heading to town, and the right front ball joint broke. The break caused us to shoot to the left across the opposite lane and into the dirt, just missing a sign post.

Thanks to Louie who took me home, after we'd been sitting in the heat and sun for 45 minutes, and then took water back to Bob who was with the car another hour before the tow truck arrived.

In a period of 10 days we broke three cars, one permanently. We're knocking them off like flies. But we've had opportunities to see the kindness of the people of Pahrump.

In the period waiting for the tow truck on July 25, we witnessed young adults to seniors, wealthier people in expensive vehicles to people in older beat-up cars and people of all races ask if they could help.

What a great bunch of neighbors we have in our fellow Pahrumpians.
