Sports BriefsPV: Key dates Prospective Pahrump Valley High School student-athletes should remember these dates to be prepared for the 2009-2010 sports seasons. * NOW: Physical examination and registration forms will be available at Pahrump Valley High School; summer hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. * MONDAY: Early registration will be held from noon to 8 p.m. in the PVHS athletics director's office. Bring completed physical and registration forms. Physicals must be done by a doctor, not chiropractors. Every student must have a new physical examination each year. The forms are available at the school and should be picked up before going to the doctor. These forms are now available. * Aug. 10: Final registration will be held from noon to 6 p.m. in the AD's office. Student-athletes must be registered by this date to be eligible to participate. Anyone having problems meeting this requirement should contact the AD's office (727-7908). Aug. 13: This is the first official day for football practice. Aug. 17: All remaining fall sports (girls volleyball, girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer) start preseason workouts. Girls soccer will be a fall sport; the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association made that decision at its June 16-17 meeting in Reno. Aug. 24: First day of school. PV football Football workouts for Pahrump Valley High School prospects are now being held daily at the Trojans' stadium, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For information, contact coach Leo Verzilli at 209-5504. Prospective Pahrump Valley High school athletes in football, as well as other fall sportss, must be aware of several facts. * An appropriate physical examination / registration form must be on file in the athletics department office. * Athletes must have health insurance coverage; anyone not having coverage can purchase it through the school. * All student-athletes must meet Nevada and Nye County School District academic eligibility requirements. Each prospect must have passed at least four classes in the second semester of the 2008-2009 school year and must have a grade point average of at least 2.0. RCMS football Registration for Rosemary Clarke Middle School football will be in the Sharks' gym Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. Every prospective player must have a completed physical examination by that date. Proof of insurance is needed and there is a $60 fee (cash only). The first practice will be Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. on the RCMS field. On Aug. 19, there will be a mandatory parents meeting after practice (at around 7:30 p.m. in the gym). Equipment will be distributed Aug. 22 in the morning. The Sharks will scrimmage Moapa Valley on Aug. 29 and the season will open at home Sept. 4 against Faith Lutheran. Adult softball Pahrump Valley Softball Association adult league standings; games through July 10: Women's -- The Crew 18-4, Lady Ruff Ryders 16-6, H&M 9-13, Queen Bees 2-20. Co-Ed -- Irene's Casino 31-1, KO 21-11, Stage Stop 18-14, Advancers 5-27, Who's Your Daddy 4-28. Men's -- Young Guns 17-5, Ruff Ryders 16-6, Star Lite Video 15-5, Bandits 13-7, Heath Co 13-7, Da-Hui 8-14, Monster Bang 7-13, Leaks 4-18, Bad News Bears 3-19. Spirit coaches The 2009 Nevada State Spirit Coaches Education and Training meeting will be held Aug. 19-20 in Las Vegas, at Bonanza High School. Pre-registration is required for all classes and is due Aug. 1. Send pre-registration form to Coach Terrie McNutt, 525 Pioche St., Carson City, NV 89701. Do not send money; all fees are due the day of the class. Consult the Web site, www.niaa.com, for information on the fees. The classes are on partner-stunt progressions, spirit program management, motions jumps and tumbling and cheerleading. Mandatory classes are on the NIAA and NFHS Rules and Regulations and AACCA Safety certification. * The NIAA/NADA first Summit on Professional Development will be held Aug. 7-9 at Mesquite. Pop Warner Registration is now open for the 2009 Pop Warner football season. Players 5 to 7 years old and weighing 75 pounds or less play for one team; the second team is for youth 8 to 11 who weigh 105 pounds or less. The age is as of July 31, 2009. The cost of registration is $180. Registration forms can be picked up, and completed, at Worden's Farmers Insurance Agency, 2210 E. Commercial Road (off Highway 160 at the Nevada State Bank). Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Pahrump Pop Warner teams play in the Southern Nevada Conference. The Rush is in the Pee-Wee Division (ages 8 to 11) and will be coached by Robert Worden. The Sharks of the tiny-mite division (ages 5 to 7) will be coached by Damon Plant.
