At the July 14 Pahrump Town Board meeting, board member Mike Darby asked John Shea, vice president of Pahrump Valley Disposal, if there had been any discussion about single-sided pickup.

"Have you thought of having everybody put their cans on one side of the street on pickup day to cut down on the amount of travel so your trucks go down the street just one time instead of turning around and going back?"

Shea said, "There has been some discussion. I believe there are a few streets where the neighbors have taken it upon themselves to set that up."

Chuckling, Darby said, "That's my street."

"We are open to that," said Shea.

But he added it is "really tough for us to go out there and tell everybody that their trash has to be on this side of the street, because everybody on the other side wants it on their side. It creates some issues, but if everybody would cooperate, we would love to help facilitate that."

To voice your opinion on one-side trash pickup, send a brief note to the Pahrump Valley Times or contact us at info@pvtimes.com. Include ideas about how infirm or disabled persons would get their trash receptacles across the street.

Responses may or may not be published; however, the tally will be reported and all correspondence will be given to town board members and Pahrump Valley Disposal.
