County resumes tortoise debate
By MARK WAITE
Nye County Commissioners will resume discussions on a Pahrump Valley habitat conservation plan during a workshop at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bob Ruud Community Center, after almost a one year absence. The habitat conservation plan will address endangered species like the desert tortoise. The workshop follows a regular county commission meeting beginning at 10 a.m. Two major community service block grants are up for acceptance, a $162,040 employment incentive grant, and a $137,375 grant which includes $30,000 for a coalition building. Those grants are one of 16 items on the consent agenda which can be approved with one motion. An agreement is up for approval to retain the county Director of Information Technology Milan Dimac for $80 per hour until a replacement is hired in September. Dimac resigned effective July 21. * Money Wizard requested a lease to put an automated teller machine in the courthouse with a fee of 40 cents per transaction. * Nevada Health Centers Inc. requested a letter of interest in support of their application for stimulus money to build a Beatty clinic building. * The design-build team of B and H Construction Inc. and JVC Architects asked for a second change order of $4,830 for additional mobilization costs due to water issues on the Pahrump Justice Facility addition project. * Another item would permit the county manager to approve change orders on projects within an approved budget. * Two members are up for appointment to the Nye County Animal Advisory Committee. * The Nye County Nuclear Waste Repository Project Office has two items up for approval: submitting comments on a Federal Aviation Administration study on the Crescent Dunes solar energy tower and a letter of commitment to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Nevada Alliance for Defense, Energy and Business regarding the county's involvement with an enhanced geothermal systems proposal. |
