AGLOW meets

AGLOW, the international interdenominational Christian women's organization, will meet 9:30-11:30 a.m. July 18 in the Pahrump Community Library.

Chamber for June

The following events are being sponsored by the Pahrump Chamber of Commerce for June:

* July 9 -- July business meeting, 11:45 a.m., Great Basin College-Basin Campus.

Bill Verbeck of GBC and Diane Lake of JobConnect will present their partnership and the benefit to Pahrump and Nye County.

The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.

League of Women Voters meets

The League of Women Voters of Pahrump will hold the monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. July 15 in the JobConnect offices at Great Basin College-Basin Campus.

Christmas in July

Quilts for Cancer volunteers are almost finished with the tissue covers for those in care of Nathan Adelson Hospice, Evergreen, Beehive and those served by Meals on Wheels in Pahrump.

It needs help to purchase the tissues for the covers. A donation of $150 will provide 500 tissue packs for those in need.

Poetry and Coffee

John Salacan will host the Poetry and Coffee series at 10 a.m. to noon July 11, at Lois Layne's Deli, corner of Basin Avenue and Dahlia Street.

Pancake breakfast

The Elks Lodge will host a pancake breakfast 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 9 at the lodge, 2220 E. Basin Ave.

The cost will be $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

Tickets will be on sale at the door and a chance for door prizes is included in the cost of the meal.

Proceeds benefit Relay for Life.

P.O.S.S. meets

The next meeting for the Pahrump Open Schooling Shows will be at 7 p.m. July 14 at Wulfy's.

Breathing workshop for kids

The Pahrump Community Library will host a breathing workshop for children ages 4 to 10 from 3 to 4 p.m., July 13 at the library.

The workshop will be led by Christian Minson, a certified Transformational Breath Facilitator.

The free workshop helps children learn to breathe deeply and helps manage fears, worries, difficulty sleeping and asthma.

Bowling fundraiser

Relay for Life of Pahrump will host the second annual bowling fundraiser from 4 to 6 p.m., July 26 at the Pahrump Nugget.

The cost is $10 per person and includes three games and shoe rental. All ages are welcome. There will be door prizes and chance drawings.

VEA 'Fill the Bucket Truck'

Valley Electric Association will be collecting school supplies and donations for the school districts in its service area 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 25 in front of Walmart.

KNYE Radio will be broadcasting live and donations of school supplies gets the donor's name in a drawing for a chance to win power bill credits.

School supplies may also be brought to VEA's main lobby until July 24 or to Kaye's Allstate Insurance next to Albertson's.

Chief Tecopa Cemetery book

The Pahrump Nevada Genealogy Society presented the town board with a copy of a book detailing the burials in the Chief Tecopa Cemetery over the last 10 years.

This three-year project is available for purchase from the society by calling Phyllis Alvis, 751-9032.

Paint PV Purple

Relay for Life will host a Paint Pahrump Valley Purple event on July 10. Everyone is encouraged to display purple bows on vehicles, mailboxes, light posts, etc., in support of Relay for Life.

There will be a gathering 7:30-9 p.m. in the Pahrump Nugget parking lot July 10 followed by a candlelight vigil in honor of those who lost the battle with cancer.

All proceeds benefit Relay for Life.

Soroptimists raffle

Soroptimist International Pahrump Valley is having a $1,000 raffle for either a gas card or a Home Depot card.

The tickets are $10 each and only 400 are available. The winner will be selected Sept. 1.

Proceeds help continue programs to help women and girls promote betterment of their lives and commitment to the community.

Sheriff's open forum schedule

Sheriff Tony DeMeo will hold public open forums at Wulfy's Sports Bar at 1 p.m. on the following dates:

July 19, Aug. 23, Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 22 and Dec. 20.

RPEN has no summer meetings

The Pahrump chapter of Retired Public Employees of Nevada will not be meeting over the summer. The next meeting will be at 3 p.m., Sept. 17 at the Pahrump Community Library.
