SPLIT WITH DESERT OASIS Trojans stumble in Silver twin billPVT Will the real Pahrump Valley American Legion baseball team please stand up? Tuesday, the Trojans rode the three-hit pitching of Roman Doubenco to an 11-1 victory against Las Vegas Desert Oasis in the first game of a Silver Division game at Honeysuckle Park. In the nightcap, however, the Diamondbacks ripped three Pahrump pitchers for 16 hits in an 18-5 runaway win. The split dropped Pahrump to 5-7, with eight games left in division play. The Trojans were at Centennial Thursday and they go to Eldorado July 10 to play Henderson Foothill. Pahrump is at home against Bishop Gorman July 15. Manager Brandon Bietar's team needs a sweep of those games to get back into contention for one of the Silver Division's four playoff positions. In the first game, the Trojans scored in each of the first five innings to take a 6-0 lead. Doubenco, a righthander from Palo Verde, allowed only a home run down the stretch as Pahrump closed out a 10-run win. In the nightcap, Desert Oasis scored seven runs in the second before Pahrump responded with a four-run outburst in its half of that inning, including a homer by Doubenco. Desert Oasis (6-3) was relentless, however, advancing its lead to 10-4 in the fifth before erupting for eight runs in the sixth. |
