BROADHEAD LEADS EFFORT Speedway to reopen July 186 CLASSES OF CARS TO RACE
By DON McDERMOTT
This is not a rumor, like the reports floating around the valley the last few months. It is fact. Pahrump Valley Speedway is going to reopen. Chad Broadhead, who has been leading the effort to reopen the facility closed in late 2007, made the announcement Wednesday. "We are going to open Pahrump Valley Speedway on July 18," said Broadhead, himself a veteran driver. "The races will start at 7 p.m. The classes of cars will be the IMCA modifieds, pro stocks, street stocks, the bombers, mini-stocks and cam coupes." Broadhead also said the track's Web site, www.pahrumpvalleyspeedway.com, was to be up and running at 8 a.m. today. "It has been a major effort to get this project going," said Broadhead, who has been initiating most of the work behind the scenes. That work includes some significent repairs to the infrastructure and buildings. After the speedway's final race in 2007, there were reports the complex, located off E. Basin, would be the site for other businesses, including an auto repair center and a restaurant. Those projects, however, never materialized. -- More on this story will appear in the Wednesday edition of the Times. |
