Blue Butterfly Coffee House July 11
By CHARLENE DEAN
Nathan Adelson Hospice will once again present the Blue Butterfly Coffee House July 11 in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center. Because Nathan Adelson introduced something new, and held auditions in May, the show will have some new performers this year, added to some familiar faces from years past. The lineup includes Dan Rodriquez as the emcee, Julie Platson, Peggy Thompson and Brian Nelson from past performances. This year Nelson will be joined by Jim Kennedy and Scott Cornwell. Willi Baer will present a solo performance and will also join the Golden Monarchs as they bring another funny musical skit to life. The skit this year is a takeoff on the 1960s musical group the Mamas and the Papas, only the name has changed -- to the Grandmamas and the Grandpapas. New to the line up are keyboardist/singer Kelly Almond, harmonica player John Dilger, cowboy poet Cornbread Amos, singer/guitarist Rick Garza, music sensations Brenda and Lennice Bolton, singer/personality Rhonda Van Winkle and comediennes Robin Guttridge and Liz Pittsley. Between Nathan Adelson staff and volunteers, the coffee house has been eight months in the making. Part of the fundraiser includes several types of auctions. There will be a silent auction, a live auction and the newest craze, a Chinese Auction where participants drop raffle tickets into containers associated with the prize they desire and when all tickets have been cast, a random drawing will award the prize. Some of the items up for silent bid include a beautiful beveled mirror, gift baskets, and tickets for two or four to comedy shows in Las Vegas, including George Wallace at the Flamingo and Bonkers Comedy Club at Palace Station. There is also a $50 gift certificate to Hash House a Go-go to be had. The live auction includes, among other things, two handmade quilts specifically designed for the Blue Butterfly auction by local crafters from the Shadow Mountain Quilters, spa and beauty packages and a remote-controlled Dodge Charger donated by Saitta-Trudeau. Tonya Brum, the public relations officer for Nathan Adelson, said there were 225 tickets available and most all of them have been sold. Last year the event raised over $8,700. The proceeds are used to facilitate uncompensated hospice care and fund other programs sponsored by Nathan Adelson. Tickets are $15 for individuals and $25 for couples. To purchase tickets, donate for one of the auctions or become a sponsor, call Tonya Brum, 751-5601. The event is limited to those 21 or over. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. |
