Pahrump's three girls' softball teams -- each named Extreme Heat -- are going to the California State Games July 17-19 in San Diego, after their successful appearances in Nevada qualifying round at Majestic Park in Las Vegas last weekend.

The 12-and-under and 14-and-under teams won Nevada state championships, while the 10-and-unders finished second.

The 14s won their best-of-three series against Las Vegas Sunrise, losing 9-4 before winning 9-7 and 17-6.

The 12s were 3-1 in their division, beating Sunrise 5-2 and Majestix 8-7, before falling 7-4 to Majestix. In a showdown game, the Heat beat Majestix 8-4.

The 10s were 2-2, with their wins 14-6 against Sunrise and 19-5 against Vegas Heat, while they lost 19-2 and 16-3 to Majestix.

Tentative sites for the San Diego games is Hourglass Community Park in San Diego. The Southern California C-State Championships are slated for Kit Carson Park in Escondido.

The teams have to check in July 16, with all action to start at 8 a.m. July 17.

Brackets -- there will be 16 teams in each division -- will be posted sometime this week; the deadline for entries is today.

Opening ceremonies for the Cal Games is at 7 p.m. July 17 in Qualcomm Stadium, home of the National Football League Chargers.

The Pahrump Youth Softball Association is looking for individuals or companies who would like to support those all-star teams as they continue their tournament travels this summer.

Anyone who can help with a donation should call Cyndi at 727-7098 or 513-7562 or check out the Web site at pahrumpyouthsoftball.org. Pahrump Youth Softball is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
