J&J's Bargains offers a new variety of gifts and collectibles in Pahrump. The store is on Highway 372 next to Subway. It contains everything from special occasion items, such as sports team cups, to highly desired dragons.

Judy Bahler and her husband, James, came to Pahrump in June 2008 after he was seriously injured in a work-related accident and had to retire. They had visited Pahrump on several occasions and decided that when they retired they would come here.

They are formerly of the Anchorage, Alaska, area and offered their products at Elmendorf Air Force Base there for more than six years.

Bahler said, "I got started six years ago when I wanted something to do. I saw an infomercial about Specialties Merchandize Corp. and how you could sell their products and make money. I figured, 'What have I got to lose?' so I joined and have been doing it ever since."

She added, "It's an inexpensive way to own your own business, make money and be out around people. I offer many things in my store such as wall fans, lamps, dragons, incense, and a lot of other items."

Before opening the store in Pahrump, Bahler did her homework. She checked out the competition, visited other stores and found that her products are very different from others and they come from a different company. She doesn't expect any problems.

She started with her best sellers from Alaska and then, to determine what products to carry here, she listens to the comments of people who visit the store as well as obtaining special occasion and holiday products. She also offers catalogue sales if you don't find what you want in the store. It usually takes about three to five days for delivery.

Her prices range from 79 cents to $129. "I do cater to young people and seniors, but will do whatever is needed to meet the needs of my customers. I'm a people person and always want to help out," said Bahler.

"My products also range from the male to the female preferences with cowboys and eagles to angels and fairies. I have a nice place and good merchandise so even though we are in tough economic times, I'm optimistic that sales will increase. I don't expect an easy road, but it will get better," she said.
