Pahrump Valley wrestled a critical Southwest Class 4-A dual match against vastly-improved Sierra Vista, in Las Vegas Tuesday. Durango is the third team. The Southwest regionals are Feb. 6-7 at Bonanza, with the Nevada Class 4-A state tournament Feb. 13-14 at the Winnemucca Events Center. Pahrump Valley went 7-0 in dual matches at Bullhead City, Ariz., last weekend. And in the individual championships, the Trojans' Zach Weldon (171 pounds) and Joey Colucci (189) won titles. Chris DeMille was second, with Ande Floyd taking third. Elliott Owens and Ryan Holt each finished fourth. Weldon went 9-0, boosting his unofficial record to 35-1. Colucci and DeMille both went 8-1, with Owens at 6-1, Floyd 6-3 and Holt 6-3. Sergio Rodriguez was 1-6, Matt Rader 2-2, Josh Armendariz 3-4, Gueran Fenicle 3-4, Jared Lydon 4-3, and Steven Fildes 3-4. It was the first league dual meet loss in five seasons for coach Craig Rieger's team. The Trojans won four straight Southern Nevada Class 3-A League and regional championships before moving to 4-A this season. |
