O-Mok-See

Rising Star Equestrian Association will offer another O-Mok-See on Jan. 31.

Sign-up starts at 9 am., and the event starts at 10.

The cost is $10 per entry for members of R.S.E.A., and $25 for non-members.

Free tax return service

Pahrump tax aides are IRS trained counselors offering free tax return services beginning 9-3:30 p.m., every Wednesday and Saturday, Feb. 4 until April 22, at the Bob Ruud Community Center, Room B.

The service is open to young, low income taxpayers and seniors who may qualify for Earned Income Credit and are not receiving it.

Appointments must be made in order to keep from having to wait by calling 775-727-4258.

Those with a handicap or working hour challenge may make other arrangement by appointment only. Appointments may be made via e-mail at fordpayne@juno.com.

Genealogical Society

The Pahrump Genealogical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the LDS Church, corner of West Street and Wilson Road.

Bob Alvis will speak. His topic will be "The Hanseatic League."

Visitors are welcome. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting to follow at 7.

Pahrump Chamber of Commerce

Feb. 9 -- Join fellow chamber members for a business to business luncheon at 11:45 a.m., Wulfy's. The guest speaker will be Irina Petrova, CPA. The cost will be $10 for members and $15 for noon-members.

Feb. 25 -- The chamber mixer will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Pahrump Community Library. The event will be hosted by Friends of the Library. The cost will be $5 for members and $10 for non-members.

Author's Extravaganza

The Pahrump Community Library will host the third annual Author's Extravaganza on April 25.

Any local author interested in showcasing their material should contact the library at 727-5930, ext. 12, for more information.

Be counted

If you are homeless, you need to be counted Jan. 28 at the Pahrump Mental Health Center, 240 S. Humahuaca St.

There will be a survey to complete. The homeless numbers are submitted to HUD for additional money to aid the homeless.

Women's self-defense class

Homeland Heroes and the Nye County Sheriff's Office will sponsor a two-day women's self-defense class 8-4 p.m., Feb. 28 and March 1 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Grant-writing workshop

USDA Rural Development will hold a workshop to assist people interested in applying for rural business enterprise grants.

The grants are available to eligible public bodies, private nonprofit corporations and federally recognized Indian tribal groups to finance and facilitate development of small and emerging private business enterprises.

The workshop will be held 9:30 a.m. to noon, Feb. 4 at the Las Vegas Library, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North in Las Vegas.

A support group is forming for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren for an informal exchange of ideas and suggestions.

Rebuilding Together

Rebuilding Together is seeking homeowners who need help with repairs, free of charge.

The volunteer organization helps those who need to stay warm, dry, safe and secure in their homes.

Garden Club landscape tour

The Pahrump Valley Garden Club is planning the annual landscape tour to be held April 25.

Home landscapes south of Highway 372 are to be represented.

Those interested in having their home featured as part of the tour should call 751-0532 or 751-4785 by Jan. 31.

A variety of styles and landscapes, formal and informal, are encouraged.

Book Sale

The Friends of the Pahrump Library will conduct a book sale 9-5 p.m. Jan. 30 and 9-3 p.m. Jan. 31, at the Pahrump Community Library, 701 S. East St.

Over 4000 paperbacks and hard cover books will be for sale.

Messianic Jewish study

Meetings for Messianic Jewsh study with Rabbi Samuel Oppenheim, will be held every two weeks beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 1, 2570 Idlewild St.
