Spring Creek girls top 3-A basketball
Spring Creek's Lady Spartans have moved into the No. 1 spot in the second weekly Class 3-A Pahrump Valley Times Nevada High School Basketball ratings. A 61-43 conquest of defending state champion Yerington moved Spring Creek, 16-1, past the Lions, 15-1. Yerington, now second after being ranked No. 1 in the first ratings of the 2008-2009 season, will play the remainder of its Northern League games without Karrie-Ann Quartz. A knee injury, sustained a couple weeks ago, has put Quartz out of action. Mesquite Virgin Valley, 13-5 and the Southern 3-A League leader, is ranked No. 3, with Boulder City, because of the presence of prolific scorer Caiti Forrester, is No. 4, despite a 6-8 record. In Class 3-A boys, Overton Moapa Valley solidified its No. 1 standing with a 58-54 defeat of defending state champion Las Vegas Faith Lutheran. The loss was the first time the Crusaders ever lost a league game at home. The Crusaders, 6-15 against an enhanced schedule, are third, trailing Northern pacesetter Winnemucca Lowry, 10-7. In Class A, the Lake Mead Christian Academy boys and Pahranagat Valley Alamo girls are the top-ranked teams; both are out of the Southern League. Needles, Calif., which has only lost to Moapa Valley (39-38) in 17 games, is the 2-A girls' leader, with Lincoln County, 15-1, second. The Lynx' only loss was inflicted by Virgin Valley, 45-40. No. 1 in 2-A boys is Needles, 17-5, with Lincoln County, 9-8, second. Lincoln County is second at 9-8. The 4-A leaders are Las Vegas Cheyenne (13-2 boys) and Bishop Gorman (15-3 girls). Reno Hug, 12-5, is second in the boys' ratings, with Reno's girls, 14-5, trailing the Gaels. The Times ratings will be published each Friday through Feb. 13, with the final lists published Feb. 18, during the week the regional tournaments are played. |
