FISHING

QUAGGA REMINDER: The Nevada Department of Wildlife is asking boaters to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of quagga mussels from the Colorado River system to other waters.

Thoroughly clean, drain and dry your boat, trailer and towing vessel before traveling to another water.

EAGLE VALLEY

RESERVOIR

Ice fishing has been slow. Anglers who are concerned about actually walking on the ice can drill holes next to the dock and fish there.

ECHO CANYON

RESERVOIR

The ice is not safe.

LAKE MEAD

Anglers are using cut bait to catch stripers in the Vegas Bay arm. Shad have dispersed in the lower basin making them more difficult to find.

A few trout anglers found success at Hemenway following the Friday trout plants. Fishermen are catching both trout and stripers from the fishing dock at Boulder Harbor as well as from the shoreline on the other side of the launch ramp.

LAKE MOHAVE

Trout fishing improved after the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery resumed stocking last Friday. Anglers have been catching trout in the 11- to 13-inch range.

Shore anglers have been doing well around the marina and south towards Jumbo Wash. Baits of choice include Power Bait, salmon eggs and small hardware.

Striper fishing in the area is slow. Near Cottonwood Cove, on the other hand, fishing has been fair for both shore and boat anglers. Stripers in the two- to eight-pound range are taking cut bait like anchovies and squid.

Trolling with prepared bait has been good north and south of the marina. Largemouth bass action has been slow with minimal success on plastic worms.

LAUGHLIN

Though the fish are mostly small, striped bass are hitting cut anchovies below Davis Dam. Anglers are catching some largemouth bass along the Colorado River. Above the dam on Lake Mohave, smallies and largemouth are both active.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Fishing is good for the few anglers venturing onto the ice. Reservoirs on the area are covered with six inches of ice but conditions change almost daily.

Anglers should always be cautious and are encouraged to call the management area for current ice conditions (775-238-0240).

URBAN PONDS

Numerous anglers took advantage of good weather over the holiday weekend though the action has been a little slow. Bait options include small worms fished alone or with marshmallows, PowerBait, or various spinners. Keep bait offerings small so trout can get their mouth over your bait.
