Beatty boys stay in playoff contention

Beatty's boys remained in contention for a Southern Nevada Class A basketball playoff berth Saturday, defeating Las Vegas Trinity Christian 47-37.

At Beatty, Anthony Regalado led a balanced attack with 13 points for the Hornets, who jumped to a 23-13 halftime lead en route to the win. The Brian Hayes-coached Hornets are 3-1 in the league, 8-8 in all games. Trinity is 1-2, 7-8.

Joe Serrano added 12 points and six assists and Anthony Turner 12 rebounds for Beatty. Avery Harden led the Thunder with 14 points, and teammate Budweiser Hawkins added 10 points.

At Beatty Friday, Jacob Sumpter and Anthony Regalado each scored 17 points as the Hornets won 58-53 against the Thunderbirds (0-2, 4-8).

* Beatty's girls swept their league games last weekend, defeating Indian Springs 69-15 and Las Vegas Trinity 43-22.

Coach Aimee Senior's team moved to 2-2 in the league, 6-9 in all games.

* Tonight, Beatty's boys tangle with Spring Mountain at Seville Middle School (northwest Las Vegas) at 7. Friday, the Hornets are at home against Henderson International School. The girls and boys varsity twin bill begins at 6 p.m.

Elsewhere:

Tonopah boys 60, Sandy Valley 22 -- At Tarkanian Middle School in Las Vegas, Sergio Perez scored 18 points for the Muckers, who led 28-8 at halftime. Denver Otteson added 11 points for Tonopah. Billy Berkheimer led Sandy Valley (0-3, 1-8) with nine points.

Spring Mountain boys 51, Tonopah 33 -- At Saville Middle School in Las Vegas, Davonte Sandifer scored 10 of his 23 points in the first quarter, helping Spring Mountain bolt to a 22-4 lead on the way to an easy win. Spring Mountain is 3-0 in the league, 5-13 in all games, while Tonopah is 1-3, 2-10. Terence Green added 10 points and Dijon Riley 14 rebounds for the Eagles. Sergio Perez and Eddie Reynoso each had nine points for the Muckers.

Round Mountain boys 58, Sandy Valley 11 -- At Lake Mead Christian Academy, the Knights used a 16-0 run in the second quarter to build a 36-5 halftime lead and cruise past the Sidewinders. Round Mountain is 1-3 in the league, 4-13 in all games.

Round Mountain girls 51, Sandy Valley 7 -- At Lake Mead, Tana Berg had 13 points as the Knights routed the Sidewinders. Round Mountain (3-0, 7-9) led 26-2 after one quarter and 36-2 at the half. Abby Luna scored all seven points for Sandy Valley (0-2, 0-6).

Pahranagat Valley girls 49, Henderson International 11 -- At Henderson International, the Panthers (4-0, 11-6) led 34-0 at the half and cruised to the win. Dakota Day had 13 points for Pahranagat Valley. International is 0-4, 1-13.

Tonopah girls 60, Sandy Valley 22 -- At Tarkanian Middle School, Kaici Hirsch scored 14 points for the Muckers, who bolted to a 31-4 halftime lead en route to the win. Alex Phillips added 10 points for Tonopah, 3-0 in the league, 3-2 in all games.

Spring Mountain boys 54, Round Mountain 41 -- At Spring Mountain, Davonte Sandifer scored 26 points to lead the Grizzlies past the Knights. Terrance Green added 10 points for Spring Mountain, which rallied after trailing 21-19 at halftime. Will Sweeney led the Knights with 16 points, and teammate Joe Swoope scored 11.

Lake Mead Christian Academy boys 48, Pahranagat Valley 23 -- At Lake Mead, Jeff Newton scored seven of his 19 points in the first quarter, helping the Eagles build a 15-3 lead on the way to defeating the Panthers. Landon Littlefield added 10 points for the Eagles, 3-0 in the league, 11-6 in all games. Alamo is 2-2, 14-3. Tommy Williams led Pahranagat Valley with six points.

Henderson International boys 49, Lund 25 -- At Henderson International, Clay Tormey had 15 points and five assists to help the Wolverines beat the Mustangs. Danny Moerman added 12 points and seven rebounds for Henderson International, which took over in the second quarter after falling behind 9-7 in the first. Lund is 1-3, 2-12.
