FOUR DOUBLEHEADERS IN EIGHT DAYS

Pahrump Valley's basketball teams, after playing only once last week because of student testing, return to their pro-style schedule Thursday, playing four Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A twin bills and a single game (featuring the Trojan boys) over the next eight days.

The schedule -- sure to determine if the Trojans can qualify for the regional playoffs in mid-February -- includes :

* Las Vegas Bonanza visits for a Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division doubleheader Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.

* Friday, the Trojans travel to Las Vegas to play a division twin bill against Spring Valley (5 p.m.) .

* Saturday, the boys host former Southern Nevada Class A League rival Mesquite Virgin Valley at 6 p.m.;

* Monday, Clark is at PVHS for a 4-A doubleheader (5 p.m.);

* Next Wednesday, Durango plays at Pahrump Valley in a Southwest twin bill (5 p.m.)

Starting Jan. 30 (at Sierra Vista), the Trojans play that night, Jan. 31 (at Durango), Feb. 2 (at Gorman), Feb. 4 (Western at home), Feb. 5 (Desert Oasis at home), Feb. 9 (boys only, at Boulder City), Feb. 11 (at Bonanza) and Feb. 13 (home vs. Spring Valley).

The PVHS girls moved to 12-9 in all games, 3-2 in the division, with a 64-16 rout of homestanding Desert Oasis Friday. The boys fell to 0-5 in the division, 7-10 in all, with a 58-38 loss to the Diamonbacks.

Kristi Daffer scored 18 points, with Casey Scheller adding 11 and Alyson Kunzi 10 for the Lady Trojans, who led 20-6, 39-14 and 50-16 at the quarters.

Desert Oasis, in its first Class 4-A basketball season, squared its record at 2-2 by leading 17-13, 31-19 and 46-30 at the quarters. Tyler True and Marvin Weekly scored 10 points each, while Mike Amburgey had nine for the Trojans.

Cameron Mich'l had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Desert Oasis. Derek Adkins had 10 points and four steals for Desert Oasis, and teammate Cameron Jefferson had five points and 13 rebounds.

In other Southwest games:

BOYS

Spring Valley 64, Western 63 -- At Spring Valley, Esteban Gonzalez's layup with four seconds left gave the Grizzlies a win over the Warriors.

Jesse Chippoletti had 20 points to lead the Grizzlies. Tyler Lewis had 15 points and Corey Clement 14 for Spring Valley.

De'Andre Nash led Western with 14 points. Bradley Cairo added 13 points and Melvin Washington 12 for the Warriors.

Bishop Gorman 70, Clark 46 -- At Gorman, Xavier Grimble had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Gaels in their win over the Chargers.

Shabazz Muhammad scored 15 points and John Loyd 13 for Gorman.

Isidro Garcia and Rabbit Toler each scored 13 points and Steven Dancy 11 for Clark.

Durango 69, Bonanza 56 -- At Durango, Marcus Falley scored 17 of his team-high 24 points in the second quarter to lead the Trailblazers over the Bengals.

Durango's Chrishawn Hopkins was 6-for-8 from the field for 13 points, and Shawn Jones finished 6-for-7 for 12 points for the Trailblazers.

Andrew Whiting had 17 points and Arin Matt 11 for Bonanza.

GIRLS

Bonanza 96, Durango 90 (2 OTs) -- At Durango, Mia Bell scored 48 points, but Christin Figgins powered a second-overtime rally, as the Bengals prevailed in a shootout against the TrailBlazers Friday.

Figgins scored 15 of her 25 points in the overtime periods. Shirley Pitts had 23 points and 13 rebounds before she fouled out. Sister Alice also fouled out, after scoring 20 points and collecting 10 rebouneds. Bell scored 21 points in the first half and 22 in the second, but was limited to five points in eight minutes of overtime.

Spring Valley 45, Western 43 -- At Spring Valley, Chyna Wimberly's basket with six seconds to play gave the Lady Grizzlies a 45-43 win over Western on Friday.

Wimberly also had the tying basket with 20 seconds to play. She finished with a team-high 12 points.

Jessica Davis added 11 points and Lauren Bugni 10 for the Grizzlies. Bugni had the assist on Wimberly's game-winning basket.

Melanie Russell led Western with 14 points.

Bishop Gorman 83, Clark 13 -- At Gorman, Yahindra Edwards scored 23 points to help the Gaels cruise to a victory over the Chargers.

Aaryn Ellenberg added 13 points and Amber Lane 11 for the Gaels, who led 33-3 after one quarter.

Angelena Cook scored eight points to lead Clark, which was held to two field goals on the night.

SATURDAY

Bonanza 66, Western 34 -- At Western, The Pitts sisters combined for 29 points as the Bengals prevailed.

Durango 65, Faith Lutheran 26 -- At Durango, Mia Bell scored 39 points as the Blazers dominated the Class 3-A Crusaders in a non-league game.

Gorman 71, Snow Canyon (Utah) 30 -- At Gorman, Aaryn Ellenberg had 23 points and Dannielle Diamant added 16 for the Lady Gaels, in a non-division game.
