Several Las Vegas athletes are being recruited -- or have already made commitments -- as the 2008-2009 school year hits the halfway point.

And as the Feb. 4 signing day approaches, Cheyenne's Desert Shields are likely to have the most Football Bowl Subdivision signees in Southern Nevada. One player has committed, three others are close, and another has several offers, Anthony said.

Running back Marcus Sullivan committed to UNLV in December. Linebacker Damien Proby, whose only visit was to Northwestern in December, has at least seven offers but has yet to commit.

Cornerback Khyriece Campbell and free safety Kevontae Clark are leaning toward Utah State, but Nevada is making a late push for the duo.

Offensive lineman Jeremiah Tofaeono has visited Nevada and has offers from Utah, Utah State and Washington.

* Palo Verde linebacker Liloa Nobriga, who has visited Hawaii and Utah, said he will visit Colorado on Friday.

* Faith Lutheran receiver/safety David Sperry said he will visit Navy on Saturday and San Diego on Jan. 31. Faith Lutheran will move from Class 3-A to 4-A in the 2009-2010 school year.

* Del Sol running back Derek Eamon has an offer from Navy, and two-way lineman Alex Klorman will visit Weber State this month, Dragons coach Preston Goroff said.

* Las Vegas quarterback Emir Lopez said he and Palo Verde running back Sidney Hodge will visit Southern Utah together Jan. 23. Hodge also plans to visit Weber State, Palo Verde coach Darwin Rost said.

* Sierra Vista running back Akil Sharp has an offer from Dartmouth, Mountain Lions coach Mark Sauve said.

* Legacy running back Prince Oroke will visit Colorado School of Mines, a Division II power in Golden, Colo., on Jan. 31, Longhorns coach David Snyder said.

* Recent commitments include Gorman girls soccer players Mariah Hobbs (San Diego) and Alex Holland (Louisiana-Monroe), Silverado girls soccer player Shelbi Spooner (Texas-El Paso), Centennial softball player Julia Bucy (Dakota Wesleyan) and Palo Verde fencer Kian Ameli (Stanford).
